Ionic liquid modulation of exchange bias in epitaxial LaMnO3 thin films

Xu Wen Zhao et al.

Summary: In this study, the magnetic ground state of LaMnO3 (LMO) thin film was investigated. It was found that the modulation of magnetic properties in LMO thin films can be attributed to the creation/annihilation of oxygen vacancy. The study highlights the importance of functional defects in perovskite oxides and sheds light on the potential of electric-field modulation of magnetism in spintronic devices.

Reversible oxygen migration and phase transitions in hafnia-based ferroelectric devices

Pavan Nukala et al.

Summary: This study found that ferroelectricity in hafnia-based thin films is closely related to oxygen voltammetry, as reversible oxygen vacancy migration is observed when the top electrode is oxygen reactive, with electrodes serving as sources and sinks of oxygen, and the dielectric layer acting as a fast conduit at millisecond time scales.

Electrically Enhanced Exchange Bias via Solid-State Magneto-ionics

Peyton D. Murray et al.

Summary: This research demonstrates an effective approach to achieving electric control of exchange bias through solid-state magneto-ionic method by introducing a ferromagnetic NiCo layer in Gd/Ni1-xCoxO thin films. This method not only establishes an exchange bias after field cooling, but can also enhance the exchange bias further after voltage conditioning and a second FC.

Bulk and Interfacial Effects in the Co/NixMn100-x Exchange-Bias System due to Creation of Defects by Ar+ Sputtering

Tauqir Shinwari et al.

Summary: The experiments demonstrate that introducing defects in the bulk of the antiferromagnetic layer enhances the exchange bias and blocking temperature, while defects at the interface do not have the same effect. Furthermore, it is observed that deeper insertion of defects results in higher exchange bias field values and larger coercivity.

Magnetoionic control of perpendicular exchange bias

J. Zehner et al.

Summary: In this study, reversible voltage control of perpendicular exchange bias in the NiO/Pd/Co/Pd/Gd(OH)(3)/Au heterostructure was demonstrated through H+ pumping and H absorption, leading to modulation of perpendicular anisotropy and eventual vanishing of exchange bias upon voltage application. The process was found to be reversible upon voltage switch-off, with changes in the exchange bias field observed with increasing cycle numbers. Additional control over exchange bias field values was achieved by superposing a magnetic field during the H loading step.
