Industrial agglomeration, technological innovation and air pollution: Empirical evidence from 277 prefecture-level cities in China

Yan Song et al.

Summary: Based on panel data of 277 prefecture-level cities in China, this paper empirically investigates the relationship between industrial agglomeration and air pollution, and the mediating effect of technological innovation using dynamic spatial panel Durbin model and mediation effect model. The results indicate that: (1) there is a typical N-shape curve relationship between industrial agglomeration and air pollution, with a moderate agglomeration interval that can restrain air pollution. (2) Technological innovation acts as a mediator variable, influencing air pollution through industrial agglomeration. The nonlinear mediating effect is reflected in the U-shape curve relationship between technological innovation and air pollution. (3) Air pollution and technological innovation exhibit strong time-space dependent effects.

Spatio-temporal evolution characteristics of eco-efficiency in the Yellow River Basin of China based on the super-efficient SBM model

Chuanhui Wang et al.

Summary: Studying the trends and internal differences of eco-efficiency in the Yellow River Basin is crucial for ecological protection and high-quality development. A eco-efficiency evaluation system was constructed based on the characteristics of the Yellow River Basin. The results showed fluctuating upward trends in eco-efficiency with notable differences among provinces. Qinghai, Sichuan, and Ningxia had high eco-efficiency, while Shaanxi, Shanxi, and Inner Mongolia had low eco-efficiency. Factors influencing the eco-efficiency differences were analyzed and suggestions for improvement were proposed.

Analysis of the synergistic effects of air pollutant emission reduction and carbon emissions at coal-fired power plants in China

Lili Du et al.

Summary: This study examines reduction measures in the Chinese coal-fired power industry and finds that structural emission reduction can significantly reduce pollutant and carbon emissions without additional emissions and energy consumption. In contrast, technical emission reduction leads to an increase in CO2 emissions, requiring a reduction of negative synergistic effects while enhancing pollutant removal.

Can Industrial Agglomeration Facilitate Green Development? Evidence From China

WanCheng Xie et al.

Summary: The study shows that China's current industrial agglomeration can promote green development by improving technological innovation, strengthening government intervention, and optimizing industrial structure. Heterogeneity analysis demonstrates that industrial agglomeration plays a stronger role in promoting green development in areas with more developed economies, lower resource dependence, and higher industrial agglomeration.
