The Impact of Public Transportation on Carbon Emissions-From the Perspective of Energy Consumption

Qin-Lei Jing et al.

Summary: This study examines the impact of public transport development on carbon emissions reduction and verifies the mediating role of energy consumption in this process. The results show a negative correlation between public transport development level and carbon emissions, with energy consumption serving as the transmission pathway. The study also finds regional heterogeneity in the carbon emissions reduction effect of public transport development level based on energy consumption. Therefore, it is necessary to accelerate the green upgrading of transportation infrastructure, promote the low-carbon transformation of energy production and consumption, and strengthen the linkage regulation between government and the market in order to reduce carbon emissions in public transport.

Mitigating Bunching With Bus-Following Models and Bus-to-Bus Cooperation

Konstantinos Ampountolas et al.

Summary: Bus bunching, an instability problem on high-frequency public transport lines, can be mitigated using bus-following models and cooperative control strategies between buses. These models allow for avoiding explicit modeling of bus stops, resulting in discrete problems with events occurring at arbitrary time intervals. By implementing bus-to-bus communication and control, the system can successfully eliminate bunching and improve schedule reliability and delays in bus services.

The congestion relief benefit of public transit: evidence from Rome

Martin W. Adler et al.

Summary: The study in Rome found that a reduction in public transport supply increases travel times for motor-vehicle and bus users, with the congestion-relief benefits primarily coming from increased travel times for buses.
