Nine novel ensemble models for solar radiation forecasting in Indian cities based on VMD and DWT integration with the machine and deep learning algorithms

Summary: This paper integrates variational mode decomposition (VMD) and discrete wavelet transform (DWT) with deep learning (DL) and machine learning (ML) algorithms to develop nine novel ensemble models for solar radiation forecasting. The DL-based VMD integration shows more promising results compared to DWT integration. Among the nine models, the VMD-integrated GRU model achieves the best performance for all tested Indian cities with RMSE (0.82-1.22), MAE (0.54-1.02), and R2 (0.83-0.93). Overall, this study contributes to more effective solar radiation forecasting in Indian cities using advanced ML and DL algorithms, with potential applications worldwide.

Comprehensive review of solar radiation modeling based on artificial intelligence and optimization techniques: future concerns and considerations

Summary: Solar energy is an important renewable resource, and reliable solar radiation prediction is crucial for various applications. Solar radiation data has complexity and uncertainty, influenced by environmental parameters. To tackle these challenges, data preprocessing and optimized prediction models are necessary. This study presents a comprehensive evaluation of artificial intelligence methods in solar radiation modeling and analyzes available models. The results show that artificial neural network, adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system, and decision tree models are most commonly used, along with extreme learning machine, support vector machine, and particle swarm optimization as the preferred optimization techniques. Daily-scale predictions are the most common in the studies.

Vegetation periodic changes and relationships with climate in Inner Mongolia Based on the VMD method

The study aims to explore the dynamic change of vegetation and its impact mechanism on guiding ecological protection and policy formulation. By using the VMD algorithm, the periodic characteristics of vegetation NDVI in Inner Mongolia from 1982 to 2015 were analyzed, showing multiple time scales and a correlation with climate factors. The results indicate that temperature and precipitation jointly affect the cyclic changes of NDVI in Inner Mongolia, and the VMD algorithm has significant effects on determining the cyclic dynamic changes of NDVI and climatic factors.

Improving the accuracy of daily solar radiation prediction by climatic data using an efficient hybrid deep learning model: Long short-term memory (LSTM) network coupled with wavelet transform

Summary: This study evaluated the prediction accuracy of new machine learning methods, including WLSTM, WMLPANN, LSTM, MLPANN, and MARS, for modeling daily solar radiation. Different combinations of climatic data were used as input, and the results showed that the WLSTM method outperformed the other methods in estimating solar radiation values at two stations in Illinois, USA. The average RMSE values of the other methods decreased when using the WLSTM method, indicating the successful application of the hybridization of LSTM with the wavelet transform technique in improving the prediction accuracy of solar radiation based on climatic parameters.
