Analytical hierarchy process for sustainable agriculture: An overview

Anuj Kumar et al.

Summary: United Nation Sustainable Development Goal Two (UNSDG-2) aims to eradicate hunger and ensure food security for all by 2030. Achieving this goal requires integrating various sciences, including mathematics and statistics, into agricultural practices to make them sustainable. Agriculture is the backbone of the economic systems in both developing and developed countries, but faces challenges due to conflicting issues during decision-making. Multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) techniques, such as the Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP), have proven to be effective in solving complex agriculture-related problems and finding suitable alternatives. This article reviews the application of AHP in agriculture, including the models used, data sources, and overall precision achieved in recent years.

Examining the impact of exposure, built environment and socio-demographics on pedestrian safety: A case study of Greater London

Michael Forrest et al.

Summary: This paper investigates factors associated with pedestrian safety in Greater London and finds that race, school number, job density, alcohol expenditure, crime rate, children in child benefit households, average number of cars per household, proportion of green space, and percentage of adults who commute by walking are all associated with pedestrian crash frequency. The study identifies important determinates of ward-level pedestrian safety and reveals previously unknown discrepancies in pedestrian safety between boroughs in Greater London.

A decade of child pedestrian safety in England: a bayesian spatio-temporal analysis

Niloofar Shoari et al.

Summary: This study aimed to understand the factors affecting child pedestrian safety in England from 2011 to 2020. The results showed that child pedestrian crash frequencies are positively correlated with child population, unemployment-related claimants, road density, and the number of schools, while the number of licensed vehicles per capita and walking/cycling rates contribute to improved child pedestrian safety. Although overall child pedestrian safety has improved, there is still socio-economic inequality. The study also found variations in the rate of decline in crashes among local authorities, indicating the impact of localized risk factors and mitigation measures on child pedestrian safety.

Emad Soroori et al.

Summary: This study investigated the relationship between environmental and socioeconomic factors and motor vehicle collisions involving young pedestrians in Mashhad, Iran. The findings revealed several factors, including population of young people, road area ratio, main road intersection ratio, average maximum speed limit, non-motorized travels, sidewalk area ratio, sidewalk disconnections, number of schools, unemployment ratio, illiteracy rate, and open space ratio, significantly associated with child pedestrian-motor vehicle collisions. However, these associations varied across the study area, suggesting the presence of unknown factors or interactions of known factors.

The Analysis of the Factors Influencing the Severity of Bicyclist Injury in Bicyclist-Vehicle Crashes

Elzbieta Macioszek et al.

Summary: Transportation and technological development play a significant role in shaping urban areas, bringing both benefits and negative impacts. To achieve sustainable development, it is crucial to prioritize safety and sustainability in urban development. A study on bicyclist-vehicle crashes found that factors such as driver gender and age, alcohol use, speeding, cyclist age, alcohol consumption during cycling, cycling speed before the incident, vehicle type, incident location, time of day, and incident type significantly influence the occurrence and severity of bicyclist injuries.

A GIS-Based Spatiotemporal Modelling of Urban Traffic Accidents in Tabriz City during the COVID-19 Pandemic

Bakhtiar Feizizadeh et al.

Summary: The aim of this study was to investigate the spatiotemporal trends of urban traffic accident hotspots during the COVID-19 pandemic. The results showed that the lockdown measures significantly reduced road traffic accidents, with areas with high numbers of elderly people and children being the most affected. The findings of this study can be used by urban managers to support decision making and improve the situation, leading to fewer accidents in the future.

Data-Driven Approach to Assess Street Safety: Large-Scale Analysis of the Microscopic Design

Wanshu Wu et al.

Summary: Street safety is an important aspect that affects people's psychological state and behavior. Previous assessments focused more on social and physical factors, with limited consideration for microscopic design. This study used multisource big data to assess street safety on a large scale, considering individual perception. The results showed that big data can effectively measure physical elements and design features, improving the accuracy and effectiveness of the assessment method.
