Understanding the Effects of Alignments between the Depth and Breadth of Cloud Computing Assimilation on Firm Performance: The Role of Organizational Agility

Abul Khayer et al.

Summary: The research aims to explore the impact of the depth and breadth of cloud computing assimilation on firm performance. A research model, based on various theories, is constructed to achieve this objective. The study considers two implementation alignment strategies: balanced fit and complementary fit, reflecting strategic choices made by organizations regarding the importance of cloud technology implementation. The model is tested through a survey of Chinese businesses. Empirical results show that the depth and breadth of cloud computing assimilation have a significant positive impact on company performance, mainly through organizational agility. The depth and breadth of cloud deployment and organizational agility are also positively correlated. Furthermore, the complementary fit strategy has a major impact, while the balanced fit strategy has an insignificant effect on company performance.

Summary: The success of agile in software development has led to its application in non-SD domains such as business management. However, agile education lacks client-sponsored projects, raising concerns about its sustainability. This study fills the gap by implementing scrum practices and values in a client-sponsored project and analyzes the impact on students' scrum application and the quality of their work. The findings provide a foundation for enhancing agile education to meet the rising industry demands for agile talents in non-SD domains.

Summary: The study shows that family firm agility is greatly influenced by the national/industry level of digitalization, investments in intangible assets, and the creation of own-organizational capital. On the other hand, non-family firm agility depends on investment in human capital, design, new products, and to a lesser extent on the national/industry level of digitalization. Digitalization and investments in intangible assets play a vital role in exponentially increasing family firm agility.
