Summary: This study aims to understand the factors influencing the spatial and temporal changes of isotopes content in rainfall over a region with complex topography and aerology. Using regression analysis, isoscapes were constructed for different months based on the precipitation isotope, climatic, and topographic data. The results reveal the controlling effect of altitude and slope on the precipitation isotopes content, with partial influence from meteorological settings. Additionally, the influence of precipitation types on the isotopic composition of rainwater in the study region was hypothesized for the first time.

Summary: Measurements of stable water isotopes are commonly used to estimate palaeoelevation and quantify past changes in surface height across Tibet. This paper examines the practicability of oxygen isotopes in palaeoaltimetry and evaluates a recent challenge to the palaeoaltimetry community. The study finds that oxygen isotope palaeoaltimetry works well, but has limitations in identifying low elevation valley systems.

Summary: The stable oxygen isotope composition of precipitation in southern China is studied as a valuable proxy for climatic conditions. The results suggest a significant negative correlation between summer precipitation and the stable isotope composition of precipitation in the Dongting Lake basin. Additionally, local factors such as precipitation amount and large-scale circulation play important roles in determining the oxygen isotope composition.

Summary: In this study, a 148-year precipitation oxygen isoscape in China was built by integrating observed and iGCMs-simulated isotope compositions. The Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN) fusion method performed the best among the three data fusion methods, and the generated isoscape showed reliable spatio-temporal distributions similar to observations. The isoscape can provide strong support for tracking atmospheric and hydrological processes.

Summary: An increasing number of studies have recognized the crucial impact of upstream convective activities and rainout processes on the stable isotopic composition of precipitation and water vapor at mid and low latitudes. This study focuses on the Nanjing region and develops an improved time-lagged correlation method for identifying key upstream convection zones. The results show that summer precipitation and water vapor composition in Nanjing are primarily controlled by convective activities and rainout processes along the moisture transport pathway from the Maritime Continent, via the Indo-China Peninsula and South China Sea, to Southeast China.

Summary: The contribution of evapotranspiration to regional precipitation and its impact on water management were studied using a two-layer equilibrium boundary layer model and stable water isotope module. The results showed that rain evaporation fraction and local water recycling ratio were relatively stable in the study region. Local water recycling was identified as a significant factor influencing the continental isotope effect.

Summary: This study investigated isotopic data in precipitation in a low mountain range in North Hesse, Germany, for one year, revealing the influence of factors such as altitude, rainfall amount, and air temperature on isotopic composition. The results showed seasonal variations with enrichment in warmer months and depletion in colder months, with different processes affecting precipitation differently in different seasons.

Summary: This study selected 63 representative sites around the world to analyze the long-term variability of deuterium excess (d-excess) and its association with air temperature and precipitation amount. The results showed that d-excess tended to increase at two-thirds of the sites. The study demonstrated that high temperatures and concentrated precipitation can counteract the correlation between d-excess and these two meteorological factors. This suggests that d-excess serves as an indicator for climate change at sites controlled by a single factor but has a more complicated role at sites affected by multiple factors.

Summary: This study evaluates the simulation of the seasonal cycle of water isotopic composition over Tibetan Plateau regions from six isotope-enabled general circulation models. The results show that there are differences among the models and the simulated isotopic seasonality is generally underestimated. The simulations demonstrate that in the southern Tibetan Plateau, the precipitation isotopic composition is more depleted in summer than in winter, while in the northern plateau it is the opposite. The simulations are primarily influenced by the simulated upstream precipitation and the simulated strength of the zonal wind.

Summary: This study summarizes the influence of the Westerlies on the hydroclimate of the Central Qinghai-Tibet Plateau during the Holocene. By examining circulation indices and developing a Westerlies effect index (WEI), the study identifies two types of Westerlies effect and assesses potential circulation mechanisms. The findings suggest that the Westerlies played a more prominent role in delivering moisture to the region than previously thought.

Summary: This study focuses on the North and South Mountains of Lanzhou City and analyzes the spatial and temporal dynamics of soil erosion as well as the characteristics under different environmental factors. The results show that slight erosion dominates the region, with higher intensity in the northwestern and southeastern parts. The soil erosion modulus varies with elevation, slope, and land type, with the highest modulus observed in pedocal soils and the lowest in alpine soils.

Summary: The Middle Miocene in Europe experienced significant changes in climate, environment, and vegetation. However, detailed reconstructions of temperature and precipitation patterns during this period are lacking. In this study, a high-resolution isotope-enabled general circulation model was used to investigate these changes. The modeling results are consistent with available temperature data, but show lower precipitation rates compared to pre-industrial times for central Europe. The changes in precipitation are attributed to shifts in pressure patterns and associated changes in wind direction and humidity. Additionally, the study found that changes in precipitation isotopes were larger in high elevation regions, while topography played a smaller role.

Summary: Long-term continuous monitoring of precipitation isotopes can advance our understanding of stable isotope variability in the monsoon regions. This study presents 4-year daily precipitation isotopes from Yungui Plateau in southwestern China. The isotopic variability in TC is influenced by regional precipitation amount and upstream rainout. Precipitation isotopes showed a seasonal variation associated with the movement of the intertropical convergence zone and moisture transport.

Summary: The isotopic composition of precipitation in Thailand shows spatial and temporal variations due to differences in moisture sources and climate zones. The isotopic values in the northeast monsoon and southwest monsoon are influenced by local moisture and rainout effects, respectively. The correlation between isotopic values and geographical factors differs between the two monsoon systems, with the southwest monsoon showing more significant correlations.

Summary: Stable isotope ratios of precipitation trace mechanisms of hydroclimatic change in the modern and paleoclimate record. Spatially organized regions of change suggest divergent controls, and we propose that changes in atmospheric water balance dominate trends in moisture-limited areas, whereas changes in upwind source region conditions drive trends where atmospheric water flux is large relative to precipitation.

Summary: This study revisited the linkages between El Nino and Indian Summer Monsoon for the period 1600-2016, showing significant spatiotemporal variation in the monsoon in response to El Nino. The strengthening of monsoon over northeast India in conjunction with El Nino events was observed, with decadal trends possibly controlled by the long term variation in El Nino strength. Spatial variation in rainfall and its oxygen isotopic composition in response to El Nino events was also noted. The speleothem records confirmed the inverse relation of rainfall patterns over central India and northeast India during moderate to strong El Nino periods, suggesting a long-term pause in El Nino-like conditions during specific time periods.

Summary: Quantification of the isotope altitude effect from precipitation allows the identification of recharge altitudes in high-relief areas. However, steep terrains often limit the use of this method. River-based sampling can provide a solution by using mean upstream catchment elevation to establish altitude isotope effect, which was verified using precipitation isotope data and can potentially be applied in regions where elevation-based precipitation sampling is challenging.
