Adsorption and decomposition steps on Cu(111) of liquid aromatic hydrocarbon precursors for low-temperature CVD of graphene: A DFT study

Onofrio Tau et al.

Summary: Graphene can be grown using low-temperature chemical vapor deposition (LT-CVD) with liquid aromatic hydrocarbons, which has advantages over conventional growth from methane. Through density functional theory calculations, we found that aromatic adsorbates have stronger stability and toluene exhibits better binding compared to benzene. Methyl dehydrogenation in toluene is energetically more favored and leads to the formation of adsorbed benzyl radicals, which are active species for graphene nucleation. Therefore, toluene should be preferred over benzene in LT-CVD of graphene.

The role of CNT in surface defect passivation and UV emission intensification of ZnO nanoparticles

Keshav Nagpal et al.

Summary: This study reports on the controlled enhancement of UV emission from ZnO nanoparticles synthesized via hydrothermal sol-gel routes. Various characterization techniques were used to determine the crystal structure, defect formation, morphology, and size of the nanoparticles. The results show that the combination of ZnO with carbon nanotubes can suppress visible emission and enhance UV emission.

Development of graphitic carbon nitride supported novel nanocomposites for green and efficient oxidative desulfurization of fuel oil

Ghulam Jabar et al.

Summary: In this study, catalysts used for oxidative desulfurization were synthesized using a one-pot hydrothermal method, with graphitic carbon nitride as the support. The structure and properties of these catalysts were characterized, and it was found that they could effectively remove sulfur from fuel oil under optimized conditions, making them suitable for producing sulfur-free fuel.

First principles study of photogalvanic effect of monolayer SnS

Deyang Yu et al.

Summary: The photogalvanic effect of monolayer SnS was studied under perpendicular irradiation using density functional theory combined with the non-equilibrium Green's function method. The photocurrent was generated across the entire visible light range and saturated at a small bias voltage for specific photon energies. The photocurrent exhibited a cosine dependence on the polarization angle. These findings provide valuable insights into the photogalvanic properties of 2D SnS nanosheets-based devices.

The enhanced activity of dinuclear metallophthalocyanines amino-functionalized carbon nanotube-based oxygen reduction reaction catalysts

Gai Zhang et al.

Summary: In this study, dinuclear metallophthalocyanines containing carboxyl substitutes were wrapped with amino-functionalized carbon nanotubes to enhance the electrocatalytic activity for oxygen reduction reaction. The pi-pi interactions between the metallophthalocyanines and carbon nanotubes dramatically increased the electron density in the conjugated structure, making the oxygen reduction reaction much easier.

Muhammad Hilmi Johari et al.

Summary: Multi-step chemical vapor deposition (CVD) is capable of producing high-quality thin films, and this study focuses on the effects of post-annealing on the structural and optical properties of MoS2 thin films. The results demonstrate that annealing significantly improves both the optical and structural quality of the MoS2 film.
