Soft Ball-Based Triboelectric-Electromagnetic Hybrid Nanogenerators for Wave Energy Harvesting

Summary: A new triboelectric-electromagnetic hybrid nanogenerator (TEHG) has been developed, which combines a soft ball-based triboelectric nanogenerator (SB-TENG) and an electromagnetic generator (EMG) for efficient energy harvesting from low-frequency water waves. The critical parameters affecting the energy harvesting performance of the SB-TENG have been investigated, including the type of filled liquids, silicone shell thickness, number of layers, and added soft balls. Under an operating frequency of 1 Hz, the SB-TENG and EMG can reach a maximum output peak power of 0.5 and 8.5 mW, respectively. This study not only presents a new design and approach to enhance the output performance of TENGs, but also demonstrates the potential of a self-powered water-sensing system driven by low-frequency water waves.

Triboelectric Nanogenerators-Based Therapeutic Electrical Stimulation on Skin: from Fundamentals to Advanced Applications

This article provides a brief review of TENGs-based electrical stimulation on skin, discussing its fundamentals and feasibility in adjusting physiological and pathological processes. It then categorizes and reviews emerging representative skin applications of TENGs-based electrical stimulation, focusing on antibacterial therapy, wound healing, and transdermal drug delivery. Lastly, the challenges and perspectives for further advancing TENGs-based electrical stimulation as a powerful and versatile therapeutic strategy are discussed, emphasizing the opportunities in multidisciplinary research and biomedical applications.

Ultrastretchable, Self-Healing Conductive Hydrogel-Based Triboelectric Nanogenerators for Human-Computer Interaction

Summary: In this study, an ionic hydrogel (PTSM) was developed for wearable electronic devices and virtual reality technology. The hydrogel showed excellent stretchability, adhesion, and self-healing due to the multiple weak H-bonds. The addition of MXene nanosheets resulted in a high gauge factor for the hydrogel sensor and improved energy harvesting efficiency for triboelectric nanogenerators (PTSM-TENGs). A glove-based human-computer interaction (HMI) system was created using PTSM-TENGs, enabling gesture visualization and robot hand control. The system also demonstrated potential for object recognition through triboelectric signals and machine learning techniques.

Additionally, general approaches for solving the expanded Maxwell's equations and calculating the displacement current for the output power of the nanogenerators were presented. Achieving a highly efficient chitosan-based triboelectric nanogenerator via adding organic proteins: Influence of morphology and molecular structure

Summary: The study focuses on utilizing biodegradable materials in the development of efficient triboelectric nanogenerators (TENG) for electronic devices operating near the human body. By incorporating protein-based compounds as fillers in a chitosan (CS) matrix, the output performance of TENG was improved. Different types of proteins, such as albumin, egg-shell membrane (ESM) and silk fiber (SF), were explored for their effects on output performance, with the combination of glycine, alanine, and serine proving to be the most effective in enhancing TENG output voltage and current. The addition of silk fiber (SF) in the CS matrix resulted in the best output voltage and current compared to other additives, with biodegradability confirmed through soil burial tests showing consistent output after 9 weeks.
