A self-powered tilt angle sensor for tall buildings based on the coupling of multiple triboelectric nanogenerator units

Summary: In this study, a self-powered tilt angle sensor based on an energy-harvesting triboelectric nanogenerator (EH-TENG) and a tiltsensing triboelectric nanogenerator (TS-TENG) is proposed. The EH-TENG can achieve satisfying energy harvest at ultra-low rotation speed through reasonable structural design and material selection, realizing sufficient utilization of natural wind energy. The TS-TENG can respond to external disturbances sensitively and activate the trigger circuit to alert when tilt of tall buildings occurs under abnormal conditions. The combination of energy harvesting module and tilt sensing module enables continuous operation and protection of tall buildings. This research expands the application scenarios of TENG in the infrastructure field.

High output performance flutter-driven triboelectric nanogenerator

Summary: By studying the vibrating process of flutter-driven triboelectric nanogenerator, researchers found that the inhomogeneous charge distribution and inconsistent separation distance on the vibrating films contribute to the low electrical output. The optimized design achieved a transferred charge density per time of 22.25 mC s-1 m-2, which is 2.8 times the previous record, and could light up 2792 LEDs under gentle wind.

Electromechanical Properties of a Hybrid Broadband Wind Energy Harvester for Smart Agriculture Monitoring in the Loess Plateau

Summary: In this study, a broadband energy conversion device (ECD) consisting of a triboelectric nanogenerator (TENG) and an electromagnetic generator (EMG) is proposed for wind energy collection. The optimized Scotch yoke mechanism and the addition of a deflector greatly improve the utilization of wind energy, while doping multi-walled carbon nanotubes enhances the output of the TENG. The adopted all-directional conductive foam prolongs the service life of the ECD. The peak power of the ECD is 68.49 mW at 9.6 m/s, with the EMG and TENG producing approximately 64.80 mW and 3.69 mW, respectively. This device provides a new technical strategy for the practical application of wind energy harvesters.

Rationally Designed Anti-Glare Panel Arrays as Highway Wind Energy Harvester

Summary: The anti-glare panels along highways play a crucial role in highway safety by blocking the dazzling lights of opposing vehicles at night. Inspired by these panels, a wind energy harvesting system called AG-TENG has been developed to capture energy from moving vehicles on highways. A single AG-TENG installation module can achieve a high power density of 0.2 Wm(-2) at a low wind speed of 3 m/s, surpassing conventional wind energy harvesting equipment. The AG-TENG's performance remains undegraded even after 80 hours of continuous operation (1,440,000 times). This system has the potential to power IoT devices, environmental sensors, wireless alarming, and vehicle monitoring, offering promising applications in distributed environmental monitoring, intelligent highways, and the IoT.

Triboelectric Film with Electrochemical Surface Modification for Multiple Mechanical Energy Harvesting with High Storage Efficiency and Sensing Applications

Summary: Triboelectric nanogenerators (TENGs) are a key technology that converts mechanical energy into electricity using triboelectrification and electrostatic induction. The surface area of the triboelectric film is crucial for electric output generation. In this study, the surface of a copper film was electrochemically modified to create microarchitecture and used in the fabrication of a rotational TENG (R-TENG). The R-TENG generated an electrical output of approximately 180 V and 11 μA at 100 rotations per minute. The generated electricity was efficiently stored and used to power portable electronics, and the R-TENG combined with a circuit also served as a wind speed sensor.

These expanded equations are the most comprehensive governing equations including both electromagnetic interaction and power generation. Additionally, general approaches for solving the expanded Maxwell's equations and calculating the displacement current for the output power of the nanogenerators were presented. High-performance and long-cycle life of triboelectric nanogenerator using PVC/MoS2 composite membranes for wind energy scavenging application

Summary: This paper presents a high sensitivity self-powered wind speed sensor based on Triboelectric nanogenerators (TENGs), which can achieve good sensitivity in the wind speed range from 15m/s to 25m/s and light up 50 LEDs at a wind speed of 15m/s. This work not only advances the development of self-powered wind sensor systems but also promotes the application of wind speed sensing.
