Ion current rectification in asymmetric charged bilayer nanochannels

Zheng Liu et al.

Summary: This study investigates the ion current rectification (ICR) performance in bilayer nanochannels with non-uniform charge distribution. The researchers established an ion transport model using the coupled Poisson-Nernst-Planck (PNP) equations. Different configurations of bilayer nanochannels are compared, and it is found that surface charge is necessary for inducing ICR. The study also discusses the factors that can enhance ICR performance, such as regulating surface charge density, geometry parameters, and ion concentration.

Asymmetric Nanochannel Network-Based Bipolar Ionic Diode for Enhanced Heavy Metal Ion Detection

Jaehyun Kim et al.

Summary: In this study, a bipolar diode based on a nanochannel network membrane (NCNM) with a high rectification degree was proposed. The high rectification was achieved through the synergetic effect of the bipolar surface charge and the optimization of the microchannel, which induced accumulation of ion concentrations at the heterogeneous junction. The proposed diode was further applied to fabricate a highly sensitive and quantitative mercury ion sensor, which allowed direct measurement using a general fluorescent microscope and achieved a lower detection limit.

Importance of nanochannels shape on blue energy generation in soft nanochannels

Hossein Dartoomi et al.

Summary: Energy production is a pressing issue, and scholars are focusing on finding alternative sources. This study explores the effect of nanochannel shape on ion transfer behavior and investigates the impact of different geometries, soft layer density, and concentration ratio on energy production. The results show that the best geometries for different factors vary, and increasing the soft layer's charge density can significantly boost power production.
