A Meniscus Multifocusing Compound Eye Camera Based on Negative Pressure Forming Technology

Xin Feng et al.

Summary: This paper proposes a multi-focal-length meniscus compound eye based on MEMS negative pressure molding technology to meet the challenge of preparing a high-resolution compound eye. By increasing the aperture, a large field of view angle of 101.14 degrees is achieved, and the ommatidia radius is gradually increased from 250μm to 440μm. A meniscus structure is used to improve the imaging quality and achieve a resolution of 36.00 lp/mm. The prepared microlenses have a uniform shape and smooth surface, enabling both panoramic image stitching and moving object tracking. This technology has great potential for applications in various fields, including automatic driving, machine vision, and medical endoscopy.

Fabrication of a bionic compound eye on a curved surface by using a self-assembly technique

Miao Xu et al.

Summary: This work presents a straightforward, rapid, and low-cost technique for fabricating curved microlens arrays on polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) substrates using the self-assembly technique. The proposed technique involves a reactive ion etching process followed by dip-coating and crosslinking to create a hydrophobic-hydrophilic pattern and realize the curved microlens array. The fabricated bionic compound eye structure showed a wide field of view and has potential applications in imaging sensors, medical diagnostics, machine vision systems, and photodetectors.
