Hyaluronic Acid Modified Au@SiO2@Au Nanoparticles for Photothermal Therapy of Genitourinary Tumors

Ruizhi Wang et al.

Summary: This study prepared fluorescent gold nanoparticles (NPs) and achieved photothermal conversion by depositing gold nanoclusters on their surface. Hyaluronic acid was attached to the NPs surface to target cancer cells. The results showed that these NPs had high photothermal conversion efficiency and good photostability, rapidly increasing temperature and ablating cancer cells in a short time.

Early diagnosis of bladder cancer by photoacoustic imaging of tumor-targeted gold nanorods

Elisa Alchera et al.

Summary: This study developed a new technological platform for visualizing small and flat urothelial lesions in high-grade bladder carcinoma. By targeting the overexpressed integrin alpha 581 receptor and using GNRs@Chit-Iso4 for delivery, selective recognition of bladder cancer cells and distribution of nanoparticles were achieved. Photoacoustic imaging successfully detected neoplastic lesions smaller than traditional ultrasound and bioluminescence imaging.

Surfactant-Free Green Synthesis of Au@Chlorophyll Nanorods for NIR PDT-Elicited CDT in Bladder Cancer Therapy

Mei-Yi Liao et al.

Summary: The facile and straightforward fabrication of NIR-responsive theranostic materials with high biocompatibility is still an unmet need for nanomedicine applications. Here, we used a natural photosensitizer, iron chlorophyll (Chl/Fe), for the J-aggregate template-assisted synthesis of Au@ Chl/Fe nanorods with high stability. The assembly of a high amount of Chl/Fe J-aggregate onto the Au surface enabled red-NIR fluorescence for monitoring and tracking residential tumor lesions.

Enhanced Antitumoral Activity and Photoacoustic Imaging Properties of AuNP-Enriched Endothelial Colony Forming Cells on Melanoma

Paolo Armanetti et al.

Summary: This study demonstrated that endothelial colony forming cells can effectively deliver gold nanoparticles to tumors, showing potential in cancer treatment. The AuNP-loaded ECFCs were able to migrate to tumor sites in a mouse model and remain in the tumor mass for an extended period without causing damage to healthy tissue. Additionally, the study showed that the ECFC-loaded AuNPs were efficiently cleared by the liver over time.

Enhancement of doxorubicin anti-cancer activity by vascular targeting using IsoDGR/cytokine-coated nanogold

Angelo Corti et al.

Summary: Gold nanospheres tagged with isoDGR peptides can efficiently deliver pro-inflammatory cytokines to tumor vasculature. Bifunctional or trifunctional nanoparticles loaded with TNF and/or IL12, along with isoDGR peptides, show anti-cancer effects in a mouse model of fibrosarcoma by delaying tumor growth and enhancing doxorubicin efficacy without increasing toxicity. Mechanistic studies suggest that these nanoparticles can improve doxorubicin penetration in tumors and cause vascular damage.
