Tunning the tilt of the Dirac cone by atomic manipulations in 8Pmmn borophene

Yasin Yekta et al.

Summary: The authors use ab initio calculations to understand the atomic origin of the tilt in the two-dimensional Dirac cone of 8Pmmn borophene and suggest atomic substitutions to vary the tilt. Borophene, a single layer of boron atoms, has many of the exotic properties of graphene.

Electron currents from gradual heating in tilted Dirac cone materials

Ahmadreza Moradpouri et al.

Summary: Materials hosting tilted Dirac/Weyl fermions exhibit an emergent spacetime structure with an effective spacetime metric rooted in the behavior of the lattice. Using this metric, we develop a hydrodynamic theory for these materials in 2+1 dimensions, revealing heat and electric currents proportional to the temporal gradient of temperature and a non-zero Hall-like conductance proportional to the tilt in space direction. These findings suggest that the intriguing spacetime geometry in these materials enables them to convert the temperature gradient into electric current, utilizing the available resources for energy production. Additionally, we identify a tilt-induced non-Drude contribution to conductivity that can be distinguished experimentally from the usual Drude pole.

Circuit realization of a tilted Dirac cone: Platform for fabrication of curved spacetime geometry on a chip

Ahmad Motavassal et al.

Summary: The study introduces an LC circuit model that can support a tilted Dirac cone in its spectrum, with parameters that can be measured to obtain information about the spacetime metric. Nonuniform spatial dependence of the parameters induces a nontrivial geometrical structure on the emergent spacetime, extending the usefulness of circuit models to emulate nontrivial spacetime structures.

Overcounting of interior excitations: a resolution to the bags of gold paradox in AdS

Joydeep Chakravarty

Summary: This work investigates how single-sided and eternal black holes can contain a vast number of semiclassical excitations in their interior, proposing a new solution to resolve the paradox in entropy. By describing the interior of black holes in Hilbert space, the resolution of the paradox arising from the orthogonal relationships between these excitations is provided.
