Chaotic dynamics of a suspended string in a gravitational background with magnetic field

P. Colangelo et al.

Summary: This study examines the influence of a magnetic field on the chaotic dynamics of a string with endpoints on the boundary of an asymptotically AdS(5) space with a black hole. Poincare sections and Lyapunov exponents are used to analyze the string perturbed from a static configuration in two different orientations, with endpoints on the boundary either orthogonal or parallel to the magnetic field. The findings indicate that the magnetic field stabilizes the string dynamics, with the largest Lyapunov exponent remaining below the Maldacena-Shenker-Stanford bound.

Jordan and Einstein frames from the perspective of ω =-3/2 Hamiltonian Brans-Dicke theory

Matteo Galaverni et al.

Summary: This article presents a Hamiltonian Dirac's constraint analysis of the omega = -3/2 Brans-Dicke theory, including the Gibbons-Hawking-York boundary term. It derives the Hamiltonian Dirac's constraints and constraint algebra in both the Jordan and the Einstein frames, and demonstrates that the constraint algebra in these frames is not equivalent.

Is Weather Chaotic?: Coexistence of Chaos and Order within a Generalized Lorenz Model

Bo-Wen Shen et al.

Summary: This study explores the dual nature of chaos and order in weather systems based on the Generalized Lorenz Model (GLM), highlighting mechanisms that contribute to distinct predictability such as small-scale convective processes and large-scale time-varying forcing. The results suggest the coexistence of different types of attractors in weather, presenting new opportunities and challenges in improving predictions at extended-range and subseasonal to seasonal time scales.

A quenched 2-flavour Einstein-Maxwell-Dilaton gauge-gravity model

D. Dudal et al.

Summary: This study extends previous work by introducing an Einstein-Maxwell-Dilaton (EMD) action with two quark flavours, solving the equations of motion in the quenched approximation using the potential reconstruction method in the presence of a background magnetic field. The research aims to find a self-consistent dual magnetic AdS/QCD model and discusses the deconfinement transition temperature, confirming inverse magnetic catalysis, and comparing entropy density with lattice data in the vicinity of the transition for moderate values of the magnetic field.

On the interplay between magnetic field and anisotropy in holographic QCD

Umut Gursoy et al.

Summary: The study investigates the combined effects of anisotropy and a magnetic field in strongly interacting gauge theories using the gauge/gravity correspondence. It focuses on the interplay and competition between anisotropy and magnetic field, revealing a rich structure in the phase transitions at finite temperature. Various observables in the theory, such as the quark-antiquark potential, shear viscosity, entanglement entropy, and butterfly velocity are explored, showing their effectiveness as probes for distinguishing between magnetic field and anisotropy effects in the plasma states.

Holographic model for heavy quarks in anisotropic hot dense QGP with external magnetic field

Irina Ya Aref'eva et al.

Summary: In this study, a five-dimensional fully anisotropic holographic model supported by Einstein-dilaton-three-Maxwell action is presented, where three Maxwell fields provide chemical potential, spacial anisotropy, and are related to an external magnetic field. The influence of the external magnetic field on the 5-dim black hole solution and the confinement/deconfinement phase diagram, reconstructing the phase transition curves for heavy quarks, is considered, revealing the effect of inverse magnetic catalyses and identifying the positions of critical end points.

Confining and chiral properties of QCD in extremely strong magnetic fields

Massimo D'Elia et al.

Summary: The study shows that the string tension between quark-antiquark pairs is suppressed in the longitudinal direction and enhanced in the transverse direction in the presence of a strong magnetic field, reaching saturation at around 50% of its value at zero field. The flux tube exhibits consistent suppression/enhancement of the amplitude, with slight modifications to its profile. Magnetic catalysis is observed throughout the explored range of fields, showing a linear dependence of the chiral condensate on the magnetic field.

Summary: The study refines a previously introduced 5-dimensional gravity solution to better capture qualitative aspects of QCD in a strong magnetic background, such as anisotropic behavior of string tension and inverse catalysis at the deconfinement transition level. The researchers modified the solution to overcome previous limitations and bring the holographic QCD model closer to predicting magnetic QCD quantities not directly computable via lattice techniques.

Canonical analysis of Brans-Dicke theory addresses Hamiltonian inequivalence between the Jordan and Einstein frames

Gabriele S. J. Gionti

Summary: This study explores the Jordan and Einstein frames in the context of Hamiltonian formalism, analyzing the Brans-Dicke theory using Dirac's constraint theory. Contrary to popular belief, the Weyl transformation between these frames is not considered a canonical transformation in the Hamiltonian formalism, highlighting quantum mechanical inequivalence. Additionally, a canonical transformation is demonstrated in the study.
