Lifestyle-related habits and factors before and after cardiovascular diagnosis: a case control study among 2,548 Swedish individuals

Amanda Loenn et al.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the changes in lifestyle habits and other lifestyle-related factors before and after a cardiovascular disease (CVD) event. The results indicated that a CVD event may increase the motivation to improve lifestyle habits, but there was still a high prevalence of unhealthy lifestyle habits.

Systematic Review of Physical Activity Trajectories and Mortality in Patients With Coronary Artery Disease

Nathalia Gonzalez-Jaramillo et al.

Summary: This study found that maintaining or adopting an active lifestyle can reduce all-cause mortality risk in patients with CHD, especially for those who remained active. The results also suggest that the benefits of past activity in reducing CVD mortality risk may be lost if appropriate physical activity is not maintained.

Participation in exercise-based cardiac rehabilitation is related to reduced total mortality in both men and women: results from the SWEDEHEART registry

Orjan Ekblom et al.

Summary: Participation in exercise-based cardiac rehabilitation (exCR) is associated with reduced total mortality, with a more pronounced risk reduction in women compared with men. These results support the recommendations for exCR participation post-MI.

Convergent validity of commonly used questions assessing physical activity and sedentary time in Swedish patients after myocardial infarction

Amanda Lonn et al.

Summary: This study assessed the convergent validity of commonly used physical activity and sedentary behavior questions in patients after myocardial infarction (MI) using accelerometers as the reference method. The results showed that these questions can provide an indication of physical activity and sedentary behavior levels among MI patients in clinical practice, although there is some misclassification.

U-Shaped Association Between Duration of Sports Activities and Mortality: Copenhagen City Heart Study

Peter Schnohr et al.

Summary: The study observed a U-shaped association between weekly duration of leisure sports activities and cardiovascular and all-cause mortality, with the lowest risk for those participating in 2.6 to 4.5 weekly hours, consistent across subgroups. Participation in sport activities should be promoted, but the potential risk of very high weekly hours of sport participation should be considered for inclusion in guidelines and recommendations.

The SWEDEHEART secondary prevention and cardiac rehabilitation registry (SWEDEHEART CR registry)

Maria Back et al.

Summary: The SWEDEHEART-CR registry covers data for patients following an acute MI, aiming to provide information on secondary prevention and CR performance for quality audit, improvement, and research purposes. The registry has developed into a nationwide database with a high proportion of the national MI population entering a CR program, serving as a powerful tool for understanding evidence-based secondary preventive practice and improving cardiovascular health outcomes.
