Real life experience with the wearable cardioverter-defibrillator in an international multicenter Registry

Ibrahim El-Battrawy et al.

Summary: Patients at high risk for sudden cardiac death may benefit from wearable cardioverter defibrillators by avoiding immediate implantable cardioverter defibrillator implantation. Factors such as patient selection, compliance, and drug treatment play important roles. This study presents real world data from Germany and Switzerland, analyzing outcome data and patient characteristics.

Protected risk stratification with the wearable cardioverter-defibrillator: results from the WEARIT-II-EUROPE registry

Christian Veltmann et al.

Summary: The WEARIT-II-EUROPE registry demonstrated that in patients with heart failure and reduced left ventricular ejection fraction, the wearable cardioverter-defibrillator (WCD) can protect against progression of ejection fraction and evaluate competing risks of potential non-arrhythmic death, potentially improving the selection for beneficial implantation of an implantable cardioverter-defibrillator.

Mortality and ventricular arrhythmia after acute myocarditis: a nationwide registry-based follow-up study

Kristian Hay Kragholm et al.

Summary: This nationwide study in Denmark found that patients hospitalized with acute myocarditis had significantly higher risks of all-cause mortality, heart failure, ventricular arrhythmias, cardiac arrest, and implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD) implantation within 90 days compared to background population controls.

Benefit of a wearable cardioverter defibrillator for detection and therapy of arrhythmias in patients with myocarditis

Verena Tscholl et al.

Summary: Myocarditis can lead to malignant arrhythmias and sudden cardiac death, with no reliable predictors currently available. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of a wearable cardioverter defibrillator (WCD) in detecting and treating such arrhythmias in the peracute setting of myocarditis. The results showed that using a WCD after acute myocarditis could lead to the detection of sustained ventricular tachycardia in a small percentage of patients, impacting clinical management through monitoring and arrhythmia detection.

Wearable cardioverter-defibrillator: friend or foe in suspected myocarditis?

Florian Blaschke et al.

Summary: A total of 135 patients were analyzed, with 76 suspected myocarditis patients prescribed a WCD. 39 patients were diagnosed with myocarditis and impaired LVEF, while 37 patients had dilated cardiomyopathy without evidence of cardiac inflammation. The study suggests potential benefits of WCD therapy for myocarditis patients, but further randomized studies are needed for verification.
