Pulmonary artery compliance in different forms of pulmonary hypertension

Amber McCormick et al.

Summary: This study investigated the pulmonary artery compliance and resistance-compliance time in pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) patients, and compared the differences between different PAH subgroups. The results showed that there was no difference in pulmonary artery compliance among PAH subgroups, and it was not an independent predictor of transplant-free survival in PAH. However, resistance-compliance time differed among PH subgroups, challenging the constancy of resistance-compliance time.

Heart Failure With Preserved Ejection Fraction: A Review

Margaret M. Redfield et al.

Summary: HFpEF affects approximately 3 million people in the US and up to 32 million people worldwide, and risk factors include older age, hypertension, diabetes, dyslipidemia, and obesity. First-line therapy for HFpEF includes sodium-glucose cotransporter type 2 inhibitors, exercise, HF self-care, loop diuretics as needed, and weight loss for patients with obesity and HFpEF.

Prognostic role of pulmonary impedance estimation to predict right ventricular dysfunction in pulmonary hypertension

Sara Louise Hungerford et al.

Summary: We evaluated the relationship between pulmonary impedance and pulmonary artery pressure and pulmonary vascular resistance using a cardiac magnetic resonance/right heart catheterization method. The results showed that pulmonary impedance is more closely related to pulmonary artery hypertension and better predicts maladaptive right ventricular remodeling. This straightforward method could be used to better assess pulsatile load in patients with pulmonary artery hypertension.

Summary: In patients with suspected early-stage pulmonary hypertension, it is possible to identify pulmonary vascular disease using rest gas exchange parameters (V-E/VCO2 > 40 mm Hg and ETCO2 < 30 mm Hg).

Pulmonary vascular distensibility with passive leg raise is comparable to exercise and predictive of clinical outcomes in pulmonary hypertension

Callyn J. Kozitza et al.

Summary: This study aims to determine if alpha measured with a passive leg raise (PLR) maneuver is comparable to alpha with exercise. The results show that in patients who are unable to exercise or in programs lacking exercise facilities, alpha measured with PLR can predict clinical outcomes.
