Discrimination of Curcuma species from Asia using intron length polymorphism markers in genes encoding diketide-CoA synthase and curcumin synthase

Qundong Liu et al.

Summary: This study identified specific molecular markers of medicinally used Curcuma species in Asia and resolved the confusion on the reported botanical origin of crude drugs. It found intraspecies polymorphism in some Curcuma species and high consistency in others, showing a correlation with their geographical origins. The botanical origins of certain crude drugs from Thailand and India were correctly determined based on molecular analysis.

High performance liquid chromatography fingerprint and headspace gas chromatography-mass spectrometry combined with chemometrics for the species authentication of Curcumae Rhizoma

Yu Wang et al.

Summary: A strategy integrating chromatographic analysis and chemometrics was proposed for the species authentication of Curcumae Rhizoma (Ezhu), which showed that HS-GC-MS was more effective than HPLC in distinguishing different species. This study established a rapid, precise and feasible strategy for the discrimination and quality control of Ezhu with different species.

HPLC fingerprint and UV-Vis spectroscopy coupled with chemometrics for Curcumae radix species discrimination and three bioactive compounds prediction

Le Wang et al.

Summary: This study utilized HPLC fingerprint and UV-Vis spectroscopy technologies combined with chemometrics to quickly discriminate and quantitatively analyze Curcumae Radix samples. The results showed distinct differences in composition and absorption peaks among the four botanical origins of Curcumae Radix, with LDA and Bagged Trees models established based on HPLC fingerprint data achieving over 90% discrimination accuracy. UV-Vis spectra also indicated clear distinctions in absorption peaks between different species of Curcumae Radix.

Bioactivity-guided discovery of quality control markers in rhizomes of Curcuma wenyujin based on spectrum-effect relationship against human lung cancer cells

Pu Wu et al.

Summary: A bioactive compounds-based holistic quality control method for the rhizome of Curcuma wenyujin was successfully developed using an anti-lung-cancer-guided spectrum-effect relationship approach. By analyzing the volatile oil components and anti-A549 activity, 16 QC markers were identified and a GC-MS fingerprint was established for quality control. This method provides a valuable reference for the quality control of Traditional Chinese Medicines.
