Jasmonate regulates seed dormancy in wheat via modulating the balance between gibberellin and abscisic acid

Tran-Nguyen Nguyen et al.

Summary: This study reveals the regulatory role of jasmonate in seed dormancy release and germination in wheat seeds, and demonstrates that it induces dormancy release by modulating the ABA/GA balance. Additionally, the study shows that jasmonate enhances gibberellin sensitivity and reduces abscisic acid level and sensitivity to induce seed germination.

Plant programmed cell death meets auxin signalling

Joanna Kacprzyk et al.

Summary: Plant growth and development are closely related to environmental stress defense mechanisms. Programmed cell death (PCD) is a genetically controlled pathway for selectively eliminating redundant, damaged, or infected cells. Evidence suggests that auxin signaling and PCD regulation are often interconnected, with auxin generally suppressing cell death but also promoting PCD events in certain circumstances.

Action of Salicylic Acid on Plant Growth

Aixia Li et al.

Summary: This review summarizes the current knowledge on the action and molecular mechanisms through which the phytohormone salicylic acid (SA) regulates plant growth via multiple pathways. It is highlighted that SA mediates growth regulation by affecting cell division and expansion.

The Role of Salicylic Acid Signal in Plant Growth, Development and Abiotic Stress

Yulan Hu et al.

Summary: Plants constantly face adverse conditions in nature, and they have evolved mechanisms to perceive stress signals and respond optimally for growth and development. Salicylic acid plays a crucial role in regulating plant growth, development, and resistance to abiotic stress. Understanding its multiple functions can help us better understand its importance in modulating plant responses.

Trehalose 6-phosphate promotes seed filling by activating auxin biosynthesis

Tobias Meitzel et al.

Summary: Plants undergo various developmental transitions, including the interaction between sugars and hormones during seed development. By modulating the content of the signaling sugar trehalose 6-phosphate (T6P), the biosynthesis of the key plant hormone auxin can be stimulated, facilitating seed filling processes. This study provides insight into how a metabolic signal like T6P governs hormonal control in crop plants.

A shift in abscisic acid/gibberellin balance underlies retention of dormancy induced by seed development temperature

Pham A. Tuan et al.

Summary: Through a combination of approaches, it was found that seed development temperature affects the maintenance of wheat seed dormancy levels by modulating levels and responses of gibberellin and abscisic acid. During imbibition, genes regulated by ABA and GA also impact seed dormancy levels.

The main oxidative inactivation pathway of the plant hormone auxin

Ken-ichiro Hayashi et al.

Summary: Auxin inactivation is crucial for plant development, with the main pathway in Arabidopsis involving conjugation by GH3 IAA-amidosynthetases, oxidation by DAO1 dioxygenase, and hydrolysis by ILR1. These steps illustrate the significance of auxin homeostasis in plant development.

Salicylic Acid Accumulation Controlled by LSD1 Is Essential in Triggering Cell Death in Response to Abiotic Stress

Maciej Jerzy Bernacki et al.

Summary: The hormone salicylic acid (SA) plays a crucial role in regulating cell death in plants in response to environmental stresses. The LSD1 protein in Arabidopsis thaliana is a key regulator of cell death, and mutants lacking functional LSD1 protein show increased SA accumulation and susceptibility to stresses. Controlling excessive SA accumulation may lead to greater tolerance to abiotic stress.
