Screening of Wild Potatoes Identifies New Sources of Late Blight Resistance

Hari S. Karki et al.

Summary: The study found that wild relatives of potatoes are excellent sources of late blight resistance, with some resources containing plants resistant to the disease. Additionally, several species previously unreported to be resistant were discovered, potentially providing new sources of resistance.

Linkage and QTL mapping for tuber shape and specific gravity in a tetraploid mapping population of potato representing the russet market class

Jaebum Park et al.

Summary: This study conducted linkage and QTL mapping to identify significant QTL for tuber shape and specific gravity in the russet market class of potatoes. The results provide important information for the development of molecular markers useful for marker-assisted selection by potato breeders, facilitating the breeding efforts for desired tuber shape and dry matter traits in this market class.

Global multi-environment resistance QTL for foliar late blight resistance in tetraploid potato with tropical adaptation

Hannele Lindqvist-Kreuze et al.

Summary: This study identified resistance genes at specific loci in diverse tetraploid potato germplasm with multiple resistances and quality traits, and found certain genotypes showing high levels of resistance in multiple environments. The use of genomic best linear unbiased predictors (GBLUPs) with diploid marker data and QTL-linked markers as fixed effects yielded the best prediction ability (0.868).
