Leptin and Cancer: Updated Functional Roles in Carcinogenesis, Therapeutic Niches, and Developments

Tsung-Chieh Lin et al.

Summary: Leptin regulates energy metabolism, reproduction, and appetite through the leptin receptor, and recent studies have found expression of leptin and its receptor in cell types other than adipocytes, particularly in cancers and tumor microenvironments. Furthermore, leptin has been shown to have direct and indirect biological effects in cancer, necessitating exploration of underlying molecular mechanisms for novel therapeutic strategies.
