Summary: This study presents two distinct directing templates that allow for the differentiation and functionalization of remote and similar positions on bicyclic aza-arenes. This strategy enables site-selective C-H olefination, alkynylation, and allylation reactions on quinoline-containing compounds, and can be performed in a modular fashion in different orders.

Modification of 5-methylphenanthridium from benzothiazoles to indoles as potent FtsZ inhibitors: Broadening the antibacterial spectrum toward vancomycin-resistant enterococci

Nan Zhang et al.

Summary: A novel class of indolyl-5-methylphenanthridium derivatives was designed and synthesized, showing significantly improved antibacterial activity against various drug-resistant bacterial strains, especially methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus and vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus. Compound C5 exhibited excellent antibacterial effect in vivo and was difficult to induce bacterial resistance. Further mechanism studies proved that C5 could inhibit bacterial cell division by promoting FtsZ polymerization.

Regioselective Functionalization of Quinolines through C-H Activation: A Comprehensive Review

Alessandra Corio et al.

Summary: Quinoline is a versatile heterocycle found in natural products and drugs, and is widely used as a ligand in organometallic catalysis. Efforts have been focused on developing efficient and regioselective synthetic methods for functionalized quinolines, with C-H functionalization through transition metal catalysis being the most attractive strategy. This review aims to provide a comprehensive overview of methods for selective metal-catalyzed C-H functionalization of quinolines, focusing on their scope, limitations, and mechanistic aspects.
