Bacterial diversity in different outdoor pilot plant photobioreactor types during production of the microalga Nannochloropsis sp. CCAP211/78

Jie Lian et al.

Summary: This study investigated the bacterial diversity in indoor and outdoor algae reactors, and found significant differences in bacterial community composition between different reactors and over time. The presence of certain bacterial taxa was significantly correlated with nitrate concentration.

Trait drift in microalgae and applications for strain improvement

Ahlem Jebali et al.

Summary: Microalgae are a sustainable source of commercial products, but their industrial production is not as developed as other biomanufacturing technologies. Bench-scale research results often do not translate to large-scale production systems, possibly due to trait drift and evolution in response to different environments. Indoor and outdoor cultivation of microalgae may also impose negative selection pressures, making it challenging to maintain desired traits.

Biosorption of a dye and heavy metals using dead cells of filamentous bacterium,Aureispirasp. CCB-QB1

N. A. R. Hasyimah et al.

Summary: The study showed that dead cells of Aureispira sp. CCB-QB1 have the potential to be a novel biosorbent for removing dyes and heavy metals from aqueous solutions. Optimal culture conditions for QB1 cells were determined to be 0.91% peptone, 3.39% sea salt, and 29 hours of incubation time. Ultraviolet treatment was suggested as an alternative method for preparing the dead cells.
