The behavior of thiacarbocyanine dyes on the surface of few-layered hexagonal boron nitride

Anne-Charlotte Nellissen et al.

Summary: The adsorption and self-assembly behavior of several thiacarbocyanine dyes on hBN were investigated. The results showed differences in density and adsorption mode among different dyes, and the adsorbed dye molecules could form aggregates. The arrangement of the adsorbed dye molecules was influenced by the interaction between the adsorbed dye and hBN, which was different from the cases in solution or on other surfaces.

Studies on optical properties of N,O-Chelated azine-enol boron complexes featuring different fusion patterns of aromatic rings in the azine fragment

Jianjun Huang et al.

Summary: A series of N,O-chelated azine-enol boron complexes with different fusion patterns between benzene and pyridine rings were synthesized and characterized. The optical properties of these complexes were evaluated in dichloromethane solution and solid state, revealing mechanochromism and polymorphism-dependent emission. Correlations between crystal packing and emission strength were observed.

Bridging the gap between H- and J-aggregates: Classification and supramolecular tunability for excitonic band structures in two-dimensional molecular aggregates

Arundhati P. Deshmukh et al.

Summary: Molecular aggregates have different photophysical properties compared to their monomers, and can be classified using temperature, thermal broadening, and quantum yields. By studying examples of 2D aggregates, we found that the differences in excitonic band structure are the cause of the property changes. These results provide a description of complex excitonic behaviors and offer a way to optimize their applications.

Does Twisted π-Conjugation Framework Always Induce Efficient Intersystem Crossing? A Case Study with Benzo[b]- and [a]Phenanthrene-Fused BODIPY Derivatives and Identification of a Dark State

Yuxin Yan et al.

Summary: The photophysical properties of two heavy-atom-free BODIPY derivatives with twisted p-conjugated frameworks were studied using various spectroscopic methods and theoretical investigations. It was found that the twisted pi-conjugated framework does not necessarily induce efficient intersystem crossing. BDP-P exhibited stronger UV-vis absorption and fluorescence, with a longer singlet-excited-state lifetime, while BDP-B displayed weaker absorption and fluorescence with a short-lived singlet excited state and a long-lived triplet state.
