Structural and optical investigation of highly fluorescent tartaric acid derived from the tamarind pulp

Devyanshu Sachdev et al.

Summary: The current study extracted tartaric acid from tamarind pulp using a soxhlet extraction apparatus, resulting in 17.8% yield. The derived tartaric acid (DTA) was characterized by XRD, fluorescence spectroscopy, and FTIR. The results showed that DTA exhibited a maximum fluorescence emission wavelength at 504.4 nm with an excitation wavelength of 375 nm, and had a fluorescence lifetime of 17.93 ns. The chemical and morphological studies confirmed the potential optical applications of DTA.

Spherical core-shell Sb@C for tartaric acid enantioseparation

Zhongya Guo et al.

Summary: A simple one-pot method was proposed to synthesize Sb@C enantioseparation material with a controllable spherical core-shell structure. The formation mechanism of the core-shell structure was clarified. The capping of tartaric acid enantiomer on the Sb-S substance and the possible separation mechanism by hydrogen bonding based on sterical matching were verified. The structure and enantioseparation capacity of the Sb@C materials can be controlled by adjusting the ratio of Sb/S. This work presents a feasible and relatively universal strategy to design enantioseparation materials with potential application.

Selective separation of lactic, malic, and tartaric acids based on the hydrophobic deep eutectic solvents of terpenes and amides

Lijuan Liu et al.

Summary: Novel hydrophobic deep eutectic solvents (DESs) based on amides as hydrogen bond acceptors (HBAs) and terpenes as hydrogen bond donors (HBDs) were proposed for the sustainable extraction of carboxylic acids. Experimental research and molecular exploration confirmed the significant contributions of HBAs and HBDs in improving the selective separation of carboxylic acids. This finding can serve as a blueprint for designing greener solvents for selective separation of carboxylic acids in bioprocesses.
