Xianbiao Fu et al.

Summary: Ammonia is an important substance in various industries and can also be used as a carbon-free fuel. A new approach using lithium-mediated nitrogen reduction has shown promise in the electrochemical synthesis of ammonia. In this study, a continuous-flow electrolyzer with gas diffusion electrodes was used, and a platinum-gold alloy catalyst was found to be more stable and efficient for the reaction. The results showed a high faradaic efficiency for ammonia production and energy efficiency at optimal conditions.

Enabled Efficient Ammonia Synthesis and Energy Supply in a Zinc-Nitrate Battery System by Separating Nitrate Reduction Process into Two Stages

Haifeng Jiang et al.

Summary: The NitrRR process, inspired by biological nitrate respiration, was separated into two stages along a [2+6]-electron pathway to reduce the kinetic barrier. A Cu nanowire catalyst was employed, producing NO2- and NH3 with high current efficiencies (>90% and 100% respectively) at lower overpotentials. The efficiency of this process was further explored in a zinc-nitrate battery, demonstrating high output voltage, energy density, and power density.

Regulating the Li Nucleation/Growth Behavior via Cu2O Nanowire Array and Artificial Solid Electrolyte Interphase toward Highly Stable Li Metal Anode

Xin-Fang Liu et al.

Summary: A three-dimensional current collector composed of vertically aligned Cu2O nanowires and a polydopamine protective layer has been developed to solve the issues of dendrite growth and volume fluctuation in lithium metal batteries. The Cu2O nanowires provide lithiophilic sites and the well-defined nanochannel spatially confines lithium growth. The polydopamine protective layer isolates the electrode and electrolyte, and the increased specific area of copper foam suppresses the growth of lithium dendrites. The dendrite-free morphology achieved with this structure exhibits excellent cycle stability and rate performance.

Electrosynthesis of Nitrate via the Oxidation of Nitrogen on Tensile-Strained Palladium Porous Nanosheets

Shuhe Han et al.

Summary: Nitrate is an essential raw material in agriculture and industry, but the electrochemical nitrogen oxidation reaction (NOR) shows potential to replace traditional nitrate synthesis with high energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions. Tensile-strained palladium porous nanosheets (Pd-s PNSs) were found to have enhanced activity for electrochemical NOR, outperforming Pd nanosheets. Experiments with N-15 isotope labeling confirmed that nitrate originates from nitrogen oxidation.
