Particles' Organization in Direct Oil-in-Water and Reverse Water-in-Oil Pickering Emulsions

Diego M. Ramos et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the influence of particle initial wetting and oil phase viscosity on the structure and rheological properties of direct (Oil/Water) and reverse (Water/Oil) Pickering emulsions. The structure of the emulsions was examined using confocal microscopy and static light scattering, while the flow and viscoelastic properties were examined using a stress-controlled rheometer. The use of partially hydrophobic silica particles at different concentrations and oil viscosities revealed that the emulsion structure and rheological properties depend on the phase in which the particles were previously dispersed.

Enhancing pesticide droplet deposition through O/W Pickering Emulsion: Synergistic stabilization by Flower-like ZnO particles and polymer emulsifier

Li Zheng et al.

Summary: By fabricating flower-like ZnO particles, an effective Pickering emulsion for the deposition of pesticides on plant leaves was prepared. This emulsion prevents droplet coalescence and rebounding, and can be deposited on rice leaves within a short period of time. Additionally, the ZnO particles can interact with micro-nanostructures on the leaf surface, promoting droplet deposition. This study is of great importance for the application of flower-like ZnO particles as Pickering emulsion stabilizers in the agricultural field.

Yielding to stress in Pickering emulsions at dilute and intermediate volume fractions

Benjamin C. Munro et al.

Summary: Emulsions flow and yield when subjected to sufficient stress, with the movement of the droplets dependent on the stability mechanism. Unlike surfactant-stabilized emulsions, where droplets move simultaneously, nanoparticles-stabilized emulsions exhibit a delay in droplet movement due to the formation of networks in the continuous phase. The disruption of these networks is necessary for droplet mobility. Through various experimental techniques, it was found that Pickering emulsions undergo two distinct processes during the transition from solid to fluid flow. The study also revealed evidence of structure recovery in emulsions during shear.

Ethyl cellulose nanoparticles as stabilizers for Pickering emulsions

Heleen V. M. I. Kibbelaar et al.

Summary: The main stabilization mechanism of Pickering emulsions stabilized by ethyl cellulose nanoparticles is the adsorption of particles at the interface, rather than the formation of a network in the continuous phase. The presence of particles at the interface causes short-range interactions between the droplets, as observed from the rheological behavior of the emulsions.

Summary: The relationship between interfacial and bulk emulsion viscoelasticity was investigated in water-in-dodecane reverse Pickering emulsions stabilized with partially hydrophobic silica particles. The results showed that silica and NaCl concentrations affect the viscoelastic properties of the emulsions, with a correlation between the elastic modulus and silica concentration. Increasing the NaCl concentration strengthened the viscoelastic properties of the emulsions, and both silica and NaCl had similar effects on the interface and bulk viscoelastic properties.
