A composite electrocatalyst, MnCo2O4@NiFe-LDH, was developed for seawater electrolysis, which exhibited low overpotentials and improved stability. The NiFe-LDH layer acted as a protective layer and improved the active surface area of MnCo2O4 nanowires. Additionally, high valence states of Mn3+, Co3+, Ni3+, and Fe3+ played a vital role in the oxygen evolution reaction. This composite electrocatalyst shows promise for long-term seawater splitting.

Dual-doping Fe-Ni oxide for ultrahigh performance seawater oxidation by high-concentration electrolytes

Bifunctional OER/NRR Catalysts Based on a Thin-Layered Co3O4-x/GO Sandwich Structure

Metallic-Bonded Pt-Co for Atomically Dispersed Pt in the Co4N Matrix as an Efficient Electrocatalyst for Hydrogen Generation

The design of Ru-Co oxides/Co3O4 double-shelled hollow polyhedrons exhibits outstanding HER performance with low overpotential, small Tafel slope, and robust stability in alkaline solution. This strategy opens new avenues for designing TMOs with special structures for electrochemical applications.

Summary: The novel nanoforest-like NiCo2O4/CuxO/Cu heterojunction, synthesized through substrate etching and hydrothermal crystallization processes, shows excellent overall water splitting activity and long-term stability. With efficient electron transfer and formation of new active sites, as well as enlarged active surface area and strong bonding with the Cu skeleton, NiCo2O4/CuxO/Cu exhibits superior stability and electrocatalytic performance for overall water splitting.

High-performance anion exchange membrane alkaline seawater electrolysis

Summary: A Ni-doped FeOOH anode was developed for high-efficiency anion exchange membrane alkaline seawater electrolysis, showing good catalytic activity in half-cell tests and higher performance in 1.0 M KOH + seawater. The anion exchange membrane electrolyzer catalyzed by Ni-doped FeOOH exhibited a high current density and energy conversion efficiency in seawater conditions.

Summary: This study introduces novel biomimetic hierarchical nanocoral reef materials as efficient and durable electrocatalysts for alkaline water splitting. The unique structure of the nanocoral reef catalysts effectively transport charges and provide abundant active sites for splitting water molecules. The hierarchical 2D-NS/1D-NW-structured NiCoP-WOx (HER) and NiFeP-WOx (OER) catalysts exhibit excellent activities and high electrochemical stability.
