Mechanism analysis on the mitigation of harbor resonance by periodic undulating topography

Junliang Gao et al.

Summary: Gao et al. investigated the effects of Bragg reflection on harbor oscillations and discovered its significant effectiveness. They used a Boussinesq-type model to study the Bragg reflection over sinusoidal bars and its coupling effects with the harbor. They proposed a physical process decomposition method to reveal the inherent mitigation mechanism and analyzed the effects of bar properties on the best mitigation effect.

Spatiotemporal variations and extreme value analysis of significant wave height in the South China Sea based on 71-year long ERA5 wave reanalysis

Jichao Wang et al.

Summary: A thorough understanding of long-term trends and extreme characteristics in significant wave height (SWH) is essential for coastal and offshore engineering activities. This study evaluates the annual spatiotemporal variability and return periods of SWH in the South China Sea, showing significant positive trends in extreme SWH. The Generalized Pareto Distribution incorporating the Peak Over Threshold (GPD-POT) method is found to be suitable for evaluating return periods in the region.

Statistical Analyses of Wave Height Distribution for Multidirectional Irregular Waves over A Sloping Bottom

Gao Jun-liang et al.

Summary: This study focuses on the influences of principal wave direction and directional spreading parameter on the wave height evolution of multidirectional irregular waves over an impermeable sloping bottom. Using numerical simulations and an improved wave height distribution model, it was found that both factors significantly affect wave height evolution, and the improved model performs better in describing wave height distribution for multidirectional irregular waves in shallow water.
