Floods and Adaptation to Climate Change in Tourist Areas: Management Experiences on the Coast of the Province of Alicante (Spain)

Esther Sanchez-Almodovar et al.

Summary: One of the major challenges for cities on the Mediterranean coast is the effective management of urban runoff after heavy rainfall, exacerbated by the effects of climate change. To address this, local governments and concessionaire companies are adopting measures such as sustainable urban drainage systems and nature-based solutions. Case studies in Alicante, Torrevieja, and Benidorm show that these approaches contribute to reducing urban flood risk and enhancing climate change adaptation, creating resilient and safe urban spaces.
