Determination of total petroleum hydrocarbons and selected heavy metal (Pb, CO, V, Ni) concentration levels in surficial sediments of the Arvand River Estuary and their impact on benthic macroinvertebrates assemblages

Soghra Rahimi Moazampour et al.

Summary: This study investigated the levels of total petroleum hydrocarbons (TPHs) and selected heavy metals (Pb, Co, V, Ni) in surficial sediments of the Arvand River and their impacts on benthic invertebrate assemblages. The results showed that the Arvand River Estuary is threatened by contamination, particularly with respect to Ni, Pb, and TPHs. The findings of this study can serve as a baseline for future research and better management to reduce contaminant levels.

Research on the Stability of Biologically Active (E)-azastilbene Derivatives in Polish Rivers

Mariusz Kluska et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates the potential applications of (E)-azastilbene derivatives with antimicrobial properties for protecting surface water. Four derivatives of (E)-azastilbene were studied for their interactions with nine different microorganisms. Water samples collected from three rivers showed varying stability of the selected stilbene derivatives, with the highest reduction found in the Muchawka River samples and the smallest reduction in the Liwiec River samples.

Alarming carcinogenic and non-carcinogenic risk of heavy metals in Sabalan dam reservoir, Northwest of Iran

Saber Aradpour et al.

Summary: The research found that there is a certain degree of pollution in the water and sediment of the Sabalan dam reservoir, especially in terms of arsenic contamination. Consuming water from a depth of 10 meters in the reservoir may be harmful to human health, with the carcinogenic risk of arsenic being approximately four times higher than that from the water surface.

Summary: Port Hacking is a tide-dominated, drowned river valley at the southern edge of the Sydney conurbation with varying levels of ecological risk posed by sedimentary metals. This study provides a baseline evaluation of human-induced changes and risks in the area for future monitoring and management.
