Association of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons exposure with child neurodevelopment and adult emotional disorders: A meta-analysis study

Hualong Zhen et al.

Summary: This study summarized the effects of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) exposure on child neurodevelopment and adult emotional disorders. The results indicated that PAHs exposure was associated with increased risk of child neurodevelopment and adult depression. The neurotoxic effects of PAHs exposure in human beings should be given more attention, and measures should be taken to improve biomonitoring of PAHs and reduce exposure in the general population.

Hydrophobic Deep Eutectic Solvents as Greener Substitutes for Conventional Extraction Media: Examples and Techniques

Madhusmita Devi et al.

Summary: Deep eutectic solvents (DESs) are a type of multicomponent designer solvents that remain stable as liquids over a wide range of temperatures. Most DESs formulated before are hydrophilic and dissolve when in contact with water, but hydrophobic DESs (HDESs) have been developed as an alternative. HDESs can induce phase segregation in an aqueous solution and can be used as extracting mediums for various compounds. This review discusses the usage of HDESs for extraction, including organic compounds, metal ions, and gases like CO2, along with the techniques employed in the extraction processes.

Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons in surface waters from the seven main river basins of China: Spatial distribution, source apportionment, and potential risk assessment

Haiyan Yu et al.

Summary: In this study, long-term measurements of PAHs in surface waters of seven river basins across China were reported. The pollution level of PAHs was higher in North China than in South China, with coal and biomass combustion identified as the main contributors. Some individual PAH concentrations exceeded environmental quality standards, and certain river basins were found to be at moderate or high risk of contamination.
