Sensitivity of remotely sensed pigment concentration via Mixture Density Networks (MDNs) to uncertainties from atmospheric correction

Kiana Zolfaghari et al.

Summary: In this study, the accuracy of remote sensing reflectance (Rrs) derived from three different atmospheric correction (AC) algorithms was evaluated, and the effects of Rrs uncertainties on pigment concentration estimations were investigated. The results showed that iCOR and ACOLITE performed closely, while POLYMER had poorer performance. It was concluded that iCOR combined with MDNs produced adequate pigment products for studying and monitoring Lake Erie's chlorophyll-a concentration.

Evaluation of ACOLITE atmospheric correction methods for Landsat-8 and Sentinel-2 in the Rio de la Plata turbid coastal waters

F. P. Maciel et al.

Summary: Landsat-8 (L8) and Sentinel-2 (S2) terrestrial satellite missions provide useful information for aquatic applications, but the performance of atmospheric correction algorithms is crucial for quantitative retrieval of water quality parameters. The ACOLITE dark spectrum fit (DSF) method showed poor performance in the NIR bands but improved significantly with sun glint correction. The exponential extrapolation (EXP) method performed well in the green-NIR spectral region with low aerosol types.

Assessment of correlation amongst physico-chemical, topographical, geological, lithological and soil type parameters for measuring water quality of Rawal watershed using remote sensing

Mehreen Ahmed et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the relationship between physico-chemical parameters, topographical parameters, geological parameters, lithological parameters, and soil type parameters in the Rawal watershed. The results showed that in the monsoon seasons, the correlations between topographical, lithological, and geological parameters and water quality parameters were consistent. However, the correlations between turbidity and temperature parameters with soil type were stronger than with geological and lithological parameters.

Spectral indices for estimating total dissolved solids in freshwater wetlands using semi-empirical models. A case study of Guartinaja and Momil wetlands

Doris Mejia Avila et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the use of Sentinel-2 multispectral imagery and field measurements to generate semi-empirical bio-optical models for predicting total dissolved solids (TDS) in freshwater wetlands. Seven spectral indices were identified as patterns for estimating TDS and two new efficient indices were proposed. The results contribute to the determination of bio-optical models for predicting water quality parameters and improving methods of evaluating water quality using remote sensing products.

Reham M. Elkorashey

Summary: This study used chemometric techniques to evaluate the water quality status of Bahr El-Balm drain in Egypt and classified the sampling sites based on similarity. The results showed that water quality was significantly influenced by seasonal variation, with anthropogenic and biogenic activities being the major sources of variability. The study highlights the importance of chemometric techniques in understanding spatial and temporal variations in water quality.

Modeling and Monitoring of Hydrodynamics and Surface Water Quality in the Sulejow Dam Reservoir, Poland

Aleksandra Zieminska-Stolarska et al.

Summary: This study evaluated core variables of the ecological potential of the Sulejow Reservoir using a three-dimensional hydrodynamic model and a water quality model. Results showed that high chlorophyll-a concentration in the reservoir in 2015 was influenced by factors such as temperature, phosphorus, and nitrogen levels. Proposed reduction scenarios for nutrients from agriculture and wastewater discharges led to a significant decrease in nutrient concentrations in the reservoir waters.

Summary: North Creek of Jiulong River is relatively healthy in summer and fall, but exhibits the worst conditions in winter. More than 50% of sites in the dam reservoir area have lower than moderate ecological health assessments, with the mainstream having lower health levels than tributaries. The PIBI index is correlated with basic water physicochemical parameters and can be used to evaluate river health status effectively.
