Shallow landslide characteristics and its response to vegetation by example of July 2013, extreme rainstorm, Central Loess Plateau, China

Jiayong Deng et al.

Summary: This study examined the relationship between shallow landslides and vegetation pattern in the Loess Plateau, China, during the extreme rainstorms of July 2013. The results showed that shallow landslides are more likely to occur in transitional slope areas with gradient of 35-55 degrees. Most landslides were found in sunny slope areas with sparse vegetation, regardless of slope aspect. The study also found that shallow landslides in high-cover vegetation areas were fewer in number but had larger area and deeper depth, indicating the positive role of vegetation in landslide mitigation.

Effect of climate change induced extreme precipitation on landslide activity in the Three Gorges Reservoir, China

Dengfeng Zhu et al.

Summary: Climate change has caused an increase in extreme rainfall and snowfall around the world, such as in the Three Gorges Reservoir area. The combination of high water levels and heavy precipitation creates a special hydrological environment, leading to geological disasters like the Yanguan landslide. Through field investigations and numerical simulations, the combined effects of high water and heavy precipitation can be analyzed and evaluated.

Landslide Hazard Assessment Map as an Element Supporting Spatial Planning: The Flysch Carpathians Region Study

Izabela Skrzypczak et al.

Summary: Landslides and rock falls have a significant impact on sustainable construction and infrastructure safety. Environmental monitoring and geotechnical hazard assessment are crucial in building design and construction processes, especially in areas with steep slopes prone to landslides. A detailed landslide hazard map using statistical methods can provide valuable information for risk evaluation and future construction safety measures.
