Summary: Cotton cultivation in the Brazilian Northeast region is affected by water scarcity due to irregular rainy season, resulting in decreased yield. This study evaluated the impact of different water deficit management strategies on gas exchange, growth, and production of colored-fiber cotton genotypes at various phenological stages. The 'BRS Jade' genotype was found to be the most suitable for cultivation under 40% of actual evapotranspiration water deficit. Water deficit during flowering stage reduced physiological variables and growth, while deficit during vegetative and yield formation stages resulted in lower seed cotton production and total seed weight for genotypes 'BRS Rubi', 'BRS Jade', and 'BRS Safira'.

Summary: The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of irrigation with low-and high-salinity water on soil salts, sour passion fruit production, and salt leaching. The results showed that irrigation increased the electrical conductivity of the soil, with higher values in the surface layer and at the end of the dry season. Rainfall during the rainy season reduced the saline character of the soil in both low and high electrical conductivity irrigation treatments. Irrigation with high-electrical conductivity water negatively affected the production components and yield of sour passion fruit.

Summary: The objective of this study was to evaluate the physiological indices of sour passion fruit under brackish water irrigation strategies and potassium fertilization. The results showed that irrigation with water of 4.0 dS m-1 reduced various physiological indices of sour passion fruit, while salt stress increased intercellular electrolyte leakage. Fertilization with 100% of the K recommendation improved the physiological performance of sour passion fruit under irrigation with water of 1.3 dS m-1.

Summary: Yellow passion fruit is a fruit species widely cultivated in the semi-arid region of Brazil, but its yield is affected by water quality. The study found that water salinity of 3.5 dS m(-1) reduced gas exchange and production of passion fruit, with stomatal conductance and transpiration being the most sensitive variables. The waters with calcic and calcic+magnesian nature had the greatest deleterious effects on passion fruit production variables 259 days after transplanting.

Summary: Salinity stress significantly affects the growth and membrane stability index of licorice, while increasing antioxidant activity and secondary metabolites. Different rhizome diameters can influence licorice growth, and salt stress can lead to oxidative stress in licorice.

Summary: The high salt concentration in the waters of the semi-arid region of Northeast Brazil limits agricultural production, affecting chlorophyll synthesis and growth of passion fruit seedlings. However, water with electrical conductivity up to 3.5 dS m(-1) can still be used to produce seedlings of acceptable quality. Potassium fertilization does not mitigate the deleterious effects of salt stress on the formation of passion fruit seedlings.
