Quantifying the accuracies of six 30-m cropland datasets over China: A comparison and evaluation analysis

Chao Zhang et al.

Summary: With the development of remote sensing technology, fine-resolution cropland datasets have become powerful tools for agriculture planning and food security evaluation. This study compared and evaluated six crop-land products in China in 2015, finding differences in spatial consistency, provincial area accuracy, and pixel-wise accuracy.

FROM-GLC Plus: toward near real-time and multi-resolution land cover mapping

Le Yu et al.

Summary: Global land cover changes have significant impacts on biodiversity, surface energy balance, and sustainable development. However, the existing global land cover change data have limitations. To address this, we developed the FROM-GLC Plus system, which provides improved spatio-temporal resolution and monitoring capability.

Global 10 m Land Use Land Cover Datasets: A Comparison of Dynamic World, World Cover and Esri Land Cover

Zander S. Venter et al.

Summary: This study compares and evaluates global land use and land cover maps from Google, ESA, and Esri, finding a strong spatial correspondence among water, built area, trees, and crops. However, there are biases in estimating certain categories. Based on global and European ground truth data, Esri has the highest accuracy, especially in capturing details, while WC has the highest accuracy in European data. The study also emphasizes the importance of evaluating the suitability of these maps based on their application purpose and considering trade-offs between thematic resolution and accuracy.

Implementation of the CCDC algorithm to produce the LCMAP Collection 1.0 annual land surface change product

George Z. Xian et al.

Summary: This paper introduces a new dataset of land cover and land surface change created by the Land Change Monitoring, Assessment, and Projection (LCMAP) program in the conterminous United States. The dataset consists of annual land cover and land cover change products from 1985 to 2017 at a high resolution. It provides valuable information for land resource management and the study of Earth system dynamics.

Validation of the US Geological Survey's Land Change Monitoring, Assessment and Projection (LCMAP) Collection 1.0 annual land cover products 1985-2017

Stephen V. Stehman et al.

Summary: The US Geological Survey has released annual land cover and land cover change products for the CONUS, with an overall accuracy of 82.5% as assessed by a reference sample dataset. Accuracy varies by land cover class, with lower accuracy in the eastern US, and specific user and producer accuracies were reported for different land cover types. Change accuracy improved when allowing for a +/- 2-year window for agreement, and footprint accuracy for areas experiencing land cover change was reported.

Thematic accuracy assessment of the NLCD 2016 land cover for the conterminous United States

James Wickham et al.

Summary: NLCD is an operational land cover monitoring program in the United States, with data collected every five years. The accuracy of land cover components in the NLCD2016 database was assessed using reference data for 2011 and 2016, showing overall accuracies around 72% for Level II and 79% for Level I components. The changes in mapping methodologies for NLCD2016 led to improved product quality compared to NLCD2011, with overall accuracies 4% to 7% higher.
