Study of spatialtemporal changes in Chinese forest eco-space and optimization strategies for enhancing carbon sequestration capacity through ecological spatial network theory

Shi Qiu et al.

Summary: By applying complex network theory and graph theory, we constructed a time-series Chinese forest ecological spatial network and studied the nature and carbon sequestration capacity of forest ecosystems. The results showed that while ecological restoration projects in western China had certain effects, the stability and carbon sequestration capacity of forest ecosystems were decreasing. Through correlation analysis, we found significant positive correlations between carbon sequestration capacity and closeness centrality, harmonic closeness centrality, clustering, and eigen centrality, and a significant negative correlation with betweeness centrality. Based on the Principal Components Analysis, we suggested strategies for enhancing plant carbon sequestration capacity.

Sustainable poverty alleviation and green development in China's underdeveloped areas

Yuanzhi Guo et al.

Summary: The study reveals that poverty in underdeveloped areas stems from the lack of coupling and coordinating mechanism among human, economic, resource, and environmental elements, which hinders the transformation of ecological advantages into regional development advantages. To address this, underdeveloped areas need to innovate the human-earth coupling and coordinating mechanism, promote the integration of poverty alleviation, ecological conservation, and sustainable development, and achieve regional development transformation and increased farmers' incomes.

Links in a sink: Interplay between habitat structure, ecological constraints and interactions with humans can influence connectivity conservation for tigers in forest corridors

Mahi Puri et al.

Summary: Global land-use changes and rapid infrastructure development necessitate the identification and conservation of wildlife corridors. The connectivity through corridors is influenced by species' structural, ecological, and behavioral constraints. The study on tigers indicates that areas with high tiger use but limited connectivity have a higher likelihood of human-tiger conflict and may act as ecological traps for the species. Interactions with humans are crucial in mediating connectivity for large carnivores in shared habitats.
