Cost and effectiveness of 3-dimensionally printed model using three different printing layer parameters and two resins

Caio Cesar Dias Resende et al.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the accuracy of 3-dimensionally printed casts with different layer thickness and resin types. The results showed that the accuracy was not significantly affected by the layer thickness and resin type, but the printing time doubled as the layer thickness decreased.

The Accuracy of Post and Core Fabricated with Digital Technology

Tarin Piangsuk et al.

Summary: This study compared the accuracy of post and cores created with three different fabricating techniques: direct conventional, machine milling, and three-dimensional (3D) printing. The results showed that digitally fabricated post and cores have the same degree of accuracy as those fabricated using the gold standard direct conventional technique. In addition, the 3D printed resin pattern showed superior dimensional stability compared to the milled resin pattern and direct resin pattern.

Silver antibacterial surface adjusted by hierarchical structure on 3D printed porous titanium alloy

Yan Jiao et al.

Summary: This study developed a surface strategy using a hierarchical microgroove structure and silver adhered by polydopamine (PDA) on a porous titanium alloy. It was found that the surface parameters of the hierarchical structure controlled the total amount and rate of silver release, and PDA improved the total amount of absorbed silver. In vitro tests showed that the modified surface had better antibacterial properties and allowed cell orientation.

Surface roughness and dimensional tolerances in A319 alloy samples produced by rapid investment casting process based on fused filament fabrication

Konstantin Fedorov et al.

Summary: Rapid investment casting is a cost-effective and time-saving process for manufacturing complex geometries. However, the surface roughness and dimensional tolerances of castings can be negatively affected by stair-stepping, poor burnout characteristics, and ash residue of 3D printed patterns. This study investigates the effects of burnout temperature and stair-stepping on surface roughness and tolerances by using 3D printed patterns made from different materials. The results show that the surface roughness is evenly distributed for all face angles and burnout temperatures, with an average value of 5 μm. PVB-derived castings retain the original surface texture better than ABS, and ABS patterns exert the highest thermal expansion stress on the ceramic shell.

Micro-texturing of molds via Stereolithography for the fabrication of medical components

Vito Basile et al.

Summary: The effects of micro-texturing on various surface characteristics have been widely studied. Micro-structured surfaces can improve tribological properties and promote osseointegration in medical devices. This study investigates the manufacturing capability of an SLA technology for micro-textured surfaces and compares different designs.

Study of SLA Printing Parameters Affecting the Dimensional Accuracy of the Pattern and Casting in Rapid Investment Casting

Nazym Badanova et al.

Summary: In Rapid Investment Casting, the dimensional accuracy and geometric characteristics of manufactured parts are crucial for product assembly. This study focuses on the effect of SLA printing parameters, such as layer thickness and build angle, on the accuracy of Castable Wax printed patterns and Al cast parts. The study found that build angle and layer thickness were the most impactful parameters, affecting both the dimensional and geometric accuracy.

Influences of build angle on the accuracy, printing time, and material consumption of additively manufactured surgical templates

David Diaz Rubayo et al.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the effects of different build angles on the accuracy, printing time, and material consumption of additively manufactured surgical templates using a desktop SLA 3D printer and photopolymerizing resin material. The results showed that the 0-degree and 45-degree build angles produced the most accurate surgical templates, while the 90-degree build angle produced the least accurate surgical template.
