Effect of the aramid pulp on the physicochemical, viscoelastic properties and rheokinetics of polyurethanes

Joziel A. Cruz et al.

Summary: This study focuses on the effect of aramid pulp (1 wt.%) on the equilibrium swelling, enthalpy reaction, solid viscoelastic properties, and rheokinetics of castor oil and polyether polyol blend with polymeric isocyanate. Aramid pulp increases the crosslink density and slightly restricts the swollen volume, but does not change the reaction mechanism. It also improves the orderliness of the PU structure.

Tuning Thermal, Morphological, and Physicochemical Properties of Thermoplastic Polyurethanes (TPUs) by the 1,4-Butanediol (BDO)/Dipropylene Glycol (DPG) Ratio

Juliano R. Ernzen et al.

Summary: This study investigates the effect of two different chain extenders and their combination on the structure-property relationships of thermoplastic polyurethanes (TPUs). The results show that increasing dipropylene glycol (DPG) content reduces the organization of the rigid segments and the degree of phase separation in TPUs, resulting in increased polydispersity of the interdomain distance and transparency in the UV-visible spectrum. Furthermore, increasing DPG content reduces the amount of hydrogen bonds present in the rigid phase and increases the glass transition temperature of the flexible phase. Consequently, increasing DPG content leads to a deterioration in mechanical properties and hydrolysis resistance in TPUs.

Effect of chain extender on the morphology, thermal, viscoelastic, and dielectric behavior of soybean polyurethane

Diana Favero et al.

Summary: This research aimed to investigate the effect of different chain extenders on the properties of soybean polyurethane, including morphology, thermal behavior, viscoelasticity, and dielectric properties. It was found that the choice of chain extender influenced the organization of PU structure and the interaction between hard and soft domains, resulting in different molecular motions and transitions. Additionally, the phase-separated morphology at high temperatures was attributed to the Maxwell-Wagner-Sillars interfacial polarization process.
