An All-Natural Wood-Inspired Aerogel

Zi-Meng Han et al.

Summary: The oriented pore structure of wood gives it excellent properties, including low thermal conductivity, making it an attractive material for thermal insulation. However, increasing demands for sustainability have posed new requirements for aerogels. In this study, an all-natural wood-inspired aerogel was developed using all-natural ingredients and surface-activated wood particles. The resulting aerogel has a channel structure similar to natural wood, providing superior thermal insulation properties and integrating remarkable fire retardancy and complete biodegradability. With its outstanding performances, this sustainable wood-inspired aerogel will serve as an ideal substitute for existing commercial thermal insulation materials.

Carboxymethyl cellulose/sulfonated conjugated microporous polymer composite aerogel for efficient pollution removal and water evaporation

Yuping Guo et al.

Summary: In this study, a novel composite aerogel (CMC/SCMP) was synthesized using physical doping and freeze-drying techniques, which consisted of sulfonated conjugated microporous polymer (SCMP) and carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC). The CMC/SCMP aerogel exhibited excellent adsorption performance for Pb2+ and methylene blue (MB), with adsorption capacities of 94.93 and 294.84 mg.g(-1), respectively. The adsorption process followed quasi second-order kinetics and Langmuir isotherm model. The findings suggest that the CMC/SCMP aerogel has great potential as a promising material for wastewater treatment and purification.

Fabrication of polyaniline/poly(vinyl alcohol)/montmorillonite hybrid aerogels toward efficient adsorption of organic dye pollutants

Wei Lyu et al.

Summary: In this study, three-dimensional polyaniline/poly(vinyl alcohol)/montmorillonite (PANI/PVAL/MMT) hybrid aerogels with easy separation performance and highly effective reusable adsorption on both anionic and cationic dyes were successfully fabricated by a simple in-situ polymerization method. The resulting hybrid aerogels showed a well-defined hierarchical structure with PANI nanofibers coated on the skeleton wall. The adsorption performance of the hybrid aerogels on anionic and cationic dyes was systematically studied, demonstrating their excellent adsorption capacity.
