Photopolymerization of TiO2-based hybrid materials: effect of nanoparticles loading and photosensitive 1D microstructures fabrication

T. T. H. Luu et al.

Summary: This study investigates the UV-induced free-radical photopolymerization of photosensitive hybrids formed using pHEMA and TiO2 nanoparticles, and explores their potential as materials for micro-optical devices. The influence of nanoparticle concentration and UV intensity on the polymerization kinetics is discussed, and it is found that the presence of TiO2 nanoparticles decreases the initiation rate and reduces the C=C conversion yield. Despite this, one-dimensional photoactive microstructures can still be fabricated in pHEMA/TiO2 hybrids.

Transferable shadow cure: A new approach to achieving cationic photopolymerization in light-restricted areas

Sage M. Schissel et al.

Summary: Transferable shadow cure is an improved method of shadow cure that allows for the inclusion of pigments and fillers, layering in thick systems, and polymerization in complex geometries. It achieves this by transferring active centers from one space to another. The kinetic analysis shows that shadow-cure samples have slightly lower conversions compared to light-cure samples. However, shadow-cure films have higher T-g and crosslink density, likely due to the annealing during the temperature ramp sequence.

High spatial resolution of topographic imaging and Raman mapping by differential correlation- confocal Raman microscopy

Rongji Li et al.

Summary: The article introduces a differential correlation-confocal Raman microscopy (DCCRM) method that improves the spatial resolution of Raman mapping, particularly for identifying sub-micron features in materials. The authors demonstrate the improvements using graphene, carbon nanotube, and silicon carbide samples.

Voxel-Scale Conversion Mapping Informs Intrinsic Resolution in Stereolithographic Additive Manufacturing

Tobin E. Brown et al.

Summary: In high-resolution stereolithography, printed parts deviate significantly from the projected photomask due to the complexity of reactions on the voxel scale. A new technique has been developed to measure local photopolymerization rates, but enhanced control over polymerization and diffusion is needed for accurate and mechanically homogeneous parts.
