Influence of alveolar bone height on the biomechanical behavior of roots restored with custom-made posts-and-cores

Isabela Guerra Gontijo et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the influence of alveolar bone height and post type on compressive force resistance, fracture pattern, and stress distribution in endodontically treated teeth. The results showed that alveolar bone height significantly affected compressive force resistance, with normal alveolar bone showing higher resistance. Post type did not show a significant effect on compressive force resistance. Alveolar bone loss condition increased stress concentration and strain values.

Fracture strength, pull-out bond strength, and volume of luting agent of tooth-colored CAD-CAM post-and-cores

Hiromi Saisho et al.

Summary: The purpose of this in vitro study was to investigate the fracture strength, pull-out bond strength (POBS), and volume of luting agent of post-and-cores milled from different CAD-CAM materials. The results showed that different CAD-CAM materials did not influence the fracture strength and volume of luting agent of post-and-cores. Post-and-cores made with PEEK blocks showed lower bond strength to intracanal dentin than those made with fiber-reinforced epoxy resin blocks.

Bond strength of various post-core restorations with different lengths and diameters following cycle loading

Serife Kole et al.

Summary: This in vitro study evaluated the bonding strengths between different diameter and length posts and Polyether ether ketone (PEEK), Polyether ketone (PEKK), Fiber, and Zirconia (ZrO2) post-core restorations. The results showed that one-piece custom-milled Zirconia post-cores performed well under functional forces, especially in the anterior region. Custom-milled PEKK post-cores may also be a suitable alternative to prefabricated fiber-reinforced posts.

Mechanical properties, biosafety, and shearing bonding strength of glass fiber-reinforced PEEK composites used as post-core materials

Ting Zhao et al.

Summary: The mechanical properties, biosafety, and shearing bonding strength of glass fibers-reinforced polyether-ether-ketone (PEEK-GF) as post-core materials were investigated. The study found that the mechanical properties of PEEK-GF composites improved with increased glass fiber content. Evaluation of cytotoxicity, cell morphology, and cell growth confirmed the biosafety and biocompatibility of PEEK-GF composites. Furthermore, the PEEK-GF50 sample exhibited the highest shearing bonding strength after pretreatments. These results demonstrate the great potential of PEEK-GF composites as post-core materials.

Evaluation of mechanical properties of different polyetheretherketone endodontic post systems: an in vitro study

Shawbo Muhamd Ahmad et al.

Summary: This study investigated the mechanical properties of different endodontic post systems. The results showed that prefabricated posts are more resistant to fracture than custom-made posts, with core fracture being the predominant failure type. However, both types of posts exhibited similar resistance to pullout.

Summary: This study evaluated the stresses generated at the root of the maxillary central incisor restored with different materials. The results showed that teeth restored with PEEK post had higher stress levels than those restored with GFP post under all loads. However, except for the axial load, PEEK and GFP showed similar stress intensity and distribution.

Summary: The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of different surface treatments on the bonding strength between polyetheretherketone (PEEK) posts and resin cement. The results showed that surface treatment with 98% sulfuric acid resulted in higher bonding strength. In addition, the bonding strength was higher in the coronal section compared to other sections.
