Lignin-liquid crystalline elastomeric composites for shape memory applications and their thermomechanical properties

Peerawat Prathumrat et al.

Summary: This study investigates the effects of adding lignin to liquid crystalline elastomer composites on their shape memory effects. The results show that the aromatic structure of lignin increases the netpoints density of the composites, resulting in improved shape memory effects and dynamic mechanical properties.

3D printing thermo-responsive shape memory polymer composite based on PCL/TPU blends

Yanmei Wang et al.

Summary: This study focuses on the 3D printing performance and shape memory properties of thermoplastic polyurethane and polycaprolactone blends. The results show that 3D printing does not affect the thermal properties, but an increasing TPU content in the blends leads to a decrease in tensile strength.

3D printing with high content of lignin enabled by introducing polyurethane

Xinyuan Zhou et al.

Summary: This study introduces thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) to improve the rheological properties of lignin and successfully achieve a smooth surface and natural color in high loading conditions. Meanwhile, the mechanical properties of the composite can be further improved by adding carbon fiber (CF).

3D Printing of Thermoplastic Elastomers: Role of the Chemical Composition and Printing Parameters in the Production of Parts with Controlled Energy Absorption and Damping Capacity

Marina Leon-Calero et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the chemical, thermal, and mechanical properties of commercial thermoplastic polyurethane filaments, with compression tests used to study the impact of infill density and infill pattern on the properties of 3D printed parts. Optimal specific energy absorption and specific damping capacity performances were achieved with a honeycomb pattern at 50% infill density.
