Enhancement of Photostabilization of Poly(Vinyl Chloride) in the Presence of Tin-Cephalexin Complexes

Rafid R. Arraq et al.

Summary: Poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC) has attractive properties such as low cost, acid and alkali resistance, and ease of molding, but it suffers from aging. Adding tin-cephalexin complexes to PVC can improve its stability to irradiation. This study investigates the effect of these complexes on the photodecomposition of PVC and confirms their role as stabilizers by reducing the rate of photodecomposition.

Structural, Optical, and Electrical Investigations of Nd2O3-Doped PVA/PVP Polymeric Composites for Electronic and Optoelectronic Applications

Samer H. Zyoud et al.

Summary: In this study, a PVA/PVP-blend polymer was doped with neodymium oxide (PB-Nd+3) composite films of varying concentrations using the solution casting technique. XRD and FT-IR analysis confirmed the composite structure and the interaction between PB-Nd+3 and the polymeric blends. The addition of PB-Nd+3 resulted in a decrease in energy bandgap values and increased nonlinear optical parameters. The PB-Nd+3 composite films showed excellent optical limiting effects and potential applications in optoelectronics and electrical devices.

Metal Oxide Nanoparticles Containing Clotrimazole to Suppress Photodegradation of Poly(Vinyl Chloride) Thin Films

Noor Emad et al.

Summary: Poly(vinyl chloride) or PVC has functional properties that enable its use in many industrial applications. However, it suffers from aging in harsh conditions if oxygen is present. Blending PVC with metal oxide nanoparticles and clotrimazole can enhance its photostability and protect it against photodegradation.

Synthesis of New Norfloxacin-Tin Complexes to Mitigate the Effect of Ultraviolet-Visible Irradiation in Polyvinyl Chloride Films

Marwa Fadhil et al.

Summary: Polyvinyl chloride is susceptible to degradation when exposed to high temperatures and sunlight. This research explores the use of new norfloxacin-tin complexes as additives to inhibit the photodegradation of polyvinyl chloride. The complexes were found to effectively reduce the photodegradation of polyvinyl chloride when added at low concentrations.

Synthesis and Application of Levofloxacin-Tin Complexes as New Photostabilizers for Polyvinyl Chloride

Marwa Fadhil et al.

Summary: Polyvinyl chloride (PVC) is a synthetic polymer widely used in our daily life, but its useful lifetime can be shortened due to photodegradation, which also produces toxic products. Therefore, finding additives to reduce the photodecomposition of PVC is important. In this study, new levofloxacin-tin complexes were synthesized and tested for their ability to reduce PVC photodegradation. The results showed that these new additives effectively reduced the photodegradation of PVC by absorbing ultraviolet light and quenching reactive species. They were more effective than previously reported organotin complexes.

Synthesis of Methyldopa-Tin Complexes and Their Applicability as Photostabilizers for the Protection of Polyvinyl Chloride against Photolysis

Noor Naoom et al.

Summary: Polyvinyl chloride (PVC) is a widely used thermoplastic that undergoes photodecomposition when exposed to harsh conditions. The addition of methyldopa-tin complexes can enhance PVC's resistance to UV-induced deterioration. These complexes act as radiation absorbents, coordinate with polymeric chains, and scavenge radicals, peroxides, and hydrogen chloride.

Plastic additives: challenges in ecotox hazard assessment

Andrew Barrick et al.

Summary: The risks of plastic debris, especially micro(nano)plastic particles, on ecosystems are not fully understood, particularly the hazards of chemical additives within micro (nano)plastic. More research is needed on the ecotoxicological effects of plastic additives and how they are released into the environment. International concern is growing over the potential ecological risk of chemical additives, with differences in governance highlighted between the European Union and New Zealand.
