Kinetic Monte Carlo residence time distributions and kinetics in view of extrusion-based polymer modification and recycling

K. De Smit et al.

Summary: In this study, a stochastic coupled macro-micro scale modeling framework is applied to calculate the variation of the residence time distribution (RTD) and average polymer characteristics in reactive extrusion (REX). The convective mass transfers at macro-scale and micro-scale simulations are combined to successfully validate the model and provide process-driven correlations for macro-scale numerical parameters.

Functionalized Poly(ethylene-octene)/Linear Low-Density Polyethylene Prepared by Melt Free-radical Grafting Reaction and Its Potential in Toughening Poly(butylene terephthalate) Resins

Lixin Song et al.

Summary: Glycidyl methacrylate (GMA) and styrene (St) were grafted onto poly(ethyleneoctene) (POE) and linear low-density polyethylene (LLDPE) to prepare GMA-functionalized (POE/LLDPE)-g-(GMA-co-St) copolymers, which were then blended with poly(butylene terephthalate) (PBT) to produce PBT/ (POE/LLDPE)-g-(GMA-co-St) blends. The effects of grafting factors and copolymer content on the properties of the blends were studied. The results showed that the best grafting degree and comprehensive performance were achieved under specific conditions, and the blends exhibited improved toughness and thermal stability.

Morphological, mechanical, and thermal properties of PP/SEBS/talc composites

Carlos Ivan Ribeiro de Oliveira et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the effect of experimental variables on the properties of polypropylene, focusing on the dispersion of small rubber droplets, uniform dispersion of SEBS and talc particles, and the nucleating effect of talc on PP crystallization properties. The inclusion of talc in PP/SEBS blends significantly increased impact resistance, while the good dispersion and distribution of the mineral filler contributed to enhance impact properties. Tensile properties in the elastic region were not significantly affected by the addition of talc.
