Clobetasol increases the abundance of Borrelia burgdorferi in the skin 70 times more in male mice compared to female mice

Brooklyn Bourgeois et al.

Summary: The abundance of Borrelia burgdorferi can be increased by treating infected mice with topical corticosteroids. There is a sex-specific effect of the treatment, with male mice showing a higher abundance of the spirochete in the skin compared to female mice.

Host Specialisation, Immune Cross-Reaction and the Composition of Communities of Co-circulating Borrelia Strains

Ben Adams et al.

Summary: Mathematical modelling was used to investigate how microbial strain communities are influenced by host specialisation traits and antigenic relationships. The study focused on Borrelia burgdorferi, the Lyme disease bacterium, and found that host specialisation and antigenic differentiation play a role in maintaining pathogen diversity and stability.

A transwell assay method to evaluate Borrelia burgdorferi sensu stricto migratory chemoattraction toward tick saliva proteins

Taylor J. Van Gundy et al.

Summary: A novel transwell assay was developed to assess the migration of Borrelia burgdorferi s.s. towards Ixodes scapularis salivary gland proteins. Specific proteins in tick saliva gland extract were found to have chemoattractant activity for B. burgdorferi s.s. These findings suggest that further research on tick saliva components may lead to a better understanding of the chemotaxis of B. burgdorferi s.s.
