Mycetoma patients in Ethiopia: case series from Boru Meda Hospital

Summary: We present the first detailed description of mycetoma patients in Ethiopia. Seven cases of clinically diagnosed mycetoma are described, with all patients presenting with foot swelling. Late presentation and previous treatment attempts were common among the patients. The hospital had difficulties in differentiating between bacterial and fungal lesions, leading to combined treatments with antifungals and antibiotics for all patients.

Subcutaneous mycoses in Ethiopia: a retrospective study in a single dermatology center

Summary: This retrospective study in Ethiopia found that chromoblastomycosis and mycetoma are the most common types of subcutaneous mycoses, predominantly affecting male patients. Most patients originated from Oromia and Amhara regions, with extremities, especially lower limbs, being the main site of involvement.
