Heterogeneous photocatalysis has the potential to degrade toxic organic pollutants in wastewater. Tap water, obtained mainly from wells, contains inorganic salts and anions that can affect the photocatalytic activity and process of photodegradation. This review evaluates the impact of tap water on the photodegradation of organic pollutants and discusses its diverse effects on the rate of degradation.

Synthesis and characterization of Mn-Pt/AC nanoparticles and their photocatalytic and antibacterial applications

Summary: In this study, manganese-platinum oxide nanoparticles/activated carbon nanoparticles and manganese-platinum oxide nanoparticles were successfully synthesized via chemical reduction process and employed for photodegradation of a dye. The results showed that both catalysts had degradation efficiency without the use of H2O2, and the efficiency increased significantly when H2O2 was used. Additionally, these nanoparticles also exhibited significant antibacterial activity.

Synthesis and characterization of imidazolium based ionic liquid modified montmorillonite for the adsorption of Orange II dye: Effect of chain length

Summary: Two different imidazole-based ionic liquids were synthesized and used to modify montmorillonite clay for the removal of Orange II dye from aqueous solutions. The results showed that the short alkyl chain length imidazolium tetrafluoroborate (MIM) modified montmorillonite (MIM-MMT) can be an effective, innovative and cheap adsorbent for the removal of harmful O-II dye pollutants.

Enhanced photocatalytic potential of TiO2 nanoparticles in coupled CdTiO2 and ZnCdTiO2 nanocomposites

Summary: Photodegradation of organic pollutants using TiO2 as a photocatalyst is an effective technique, but its large band gap and high electron-hole pair recombination rate limit its practical applications. This study introduces CdTiO2 and ZnCdTiO2 nanocomposites to overcome these limitations. The nanocomposites showed improved photocatalytic activity, with ZnCdTiO2 degrading 97.61% of methylene blue dye within 2 hours.

Recent advances in carbon nanomaterials-based electrochemical sensors for food azo dyes detection

Summary: Azo dyes are widely used food colorants for their stability and affordability. However, they can have harmful impacts on living organs, necessitating the control of their content in food. Electro-analytical techniques have been favored for detecting azo dyes due to their sensitivity, selectivity, reproducibility, miniaturization, green nature, low cost, short sample preparation and detection time, and electrode modification capabilities. Carbon-based nanomaterials, such as carbon nanotubes (CNT) and graphene (Gr), have shown satisfactory results in the fabrication of electrochemical sensing systems for detecting the levels of azo dyes in various specimens.

Rapid detection of orange II dyes in water with SERS imprinted sensor based on PDA-modified MOFs@Ag
