A multifarious exploration of synaptic tagging and capture hypothesis in synaptic plasticity: Development of an integrated mathematical model and computational experiments

Raheel Khan et al.

Summary: The synaptic tagging and capture (STC) hypothesis explains the integration and association of synaptic activities and the formation of learning and memory. The STC pathways are the synaptic pathways involved in this phenomenon. Mechanisms and molecules have been proposed to explain memory allocation and synaptic tags, but a clear link between the STC hypothesis and memory allocation is still missing. To explore the mechanisms of potential synaptic tagging candidates and their involvement in memory allocation, a mathematical model for a dendritic spine based on five essential criteria of a synaptic tag is developed. The model includes critical memory molecules and their interactions that have been identified in earlier studies.

Ginsenosides in central nervous system diseases: Pharmacological actions, mechanisms, and therapeutics

Jing Lu et al.

Summary: This review summarizes the potential pathways by which ginsenosides affect the pathogenesis of central nervous system diseases (CNSDs), including antioxidant effects, anti-inflammatory effects, anti-apoptotic effects, and nerve protection. Ginsenosides have been shown to prevent various CNSDs, such as neurodegenerative diseases, cerebral ischemia injury, and depression.

Summary: This study aimed to explore the ameliorative potential of gefitinib (GE) in Alzheimer's disease (AD) mice. The results showed that GE significantly improved AD-associated behavioral, biochemical, and histopathological changes by inhibiting EGFR kinase activation and having antioxidant and antilipid peroxidative effects against A beta(1-42) oligomer-induced neurotoxicity.

Dexmedetomidine exerts an anti-inflammatory effect via α2 adrenoceptors to alleviate cognitive dysfunction in 5xFAD mice

Su-Mei Luo et al.

Summary: This study found that dexmedetomidine has a positive effect on inflammation and cognitive function in a mouse model of AD. It alleviates cognitive decline, inhibits neuroinflammation, and prevents the deposition of Abeta. These effects are mediated by the alpha 2 adrenoceptor-mediated anti-inflammatory pathway.

Summary: This study investigated the application of machine learning and novel biomarkers in the diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease (AD). In addition to traditional Aβ and tau-related biomarkers, biomarkers related to neuronal injury, synaptic dysfunction, and neuroinflammation were explored. Machine learning combined with novel biomarkers and multiple variables may improve the sensitivity and specificity in diagnosing AD.
